Just wanted to say kudos to you neuro guys. I work in CT-ICU, and recently had a patient who had a hemorrhagic stroke in which they did an emergent craniotomy and placement of EVD's. Normally, the patient would be tx to neuro ICU, but the pt had some cardiac support devices that NICU couldn't take. Totally out of my element, and learned some interesting things that were very new to me. It was fun, but totally not my area of expertise hehe :)

When my wife had a hemorrhagic stroke and was in NICU, I was amazed and impressed at the total professionalism and willingness to explain what was going on and why. I was really impressed that when I came on the floor to visit, the team made themselves available to talk to me and the supervising MD would call me during the day to keep me updated. That is what inspired me to start my career in nursing.

Ya neuro is a whole new world. I've been in the nicu for less than a month and probably learned more than I had in my entire critical care class for my bsn. You really have to stay on top of your assessments because the patients change fast

As a neuro ICU nurse, I love hearing things like this! Congratulations on your decision.

Neuro is amazing and I too have lots of thanks to neuro nuses.

At 24 my son suffered a TBI, I wasnt a nurse then. I watched my son go from being on full life support to walking out of hospital 28 days later. It was fascinating watching him to through the coma stages. I was truly amazed at his recovery and so very grateful to the neuro nurses who were always there to explain to me what was going on.

Its just too bad he went back to shooting pills.

I was in the neuro icu once...as a patient! And I had fantastic nurses and while I work in a pedi cardiac icu, I could never do what you adult ICU nurses do and especially neuro! hourly neuro checks...ugh probably just as bad on the nurse as on the patient (and come on, if you ask me the date at 2300 and then 0000 and I get it wrong at 0000, the night of major surgery, you can't really fault me haha)

Thanks! I love the Neuro ICU. It suits my "psycho type-A" personality :) Be glad your patient wasn't awake enough to engage in fecal painting. Never a dull moment in neuro!!
