what's the correct order of donning/removing PPE?

Nursing Students NCLEX

i've seen different versions of donning/removing personal protective devices. what's the one true way of doing so?

I have also heard variations to this as well but I have seen the following multiple times in different nursing school texts and NCLEX-RN prep books (Exam Cram etc)

Donning- Gown, Mask, Goggle, Gloves

Removing- Gloves, Goggle, Gown, Mask

This has been answered in this forum at least twice in the past. Try doing a search, or faster, do a search with google and you will find it on a CDC link.

I thought gloves came off last, in case there is any splatter/material you wouldn't want to touch w/ bare hands on your mask, goggles, or gown.

I thought gloves came off last, in case there is any splatter/material you wouldn't want to touch w/ bare hands on your mask, goggles, or gown.

According to the CDC website, updated December 2010, the orders for each are us follows:

Donning: Gown, Mask, Goggles, Gloves

Removing: GLoves, Goggles, Gown, Mask

This is what I had posted as well.....it is in most NCLEX-RN books as the above. You wouldnt leave your gloves on for last b/c you would not want to touch your face to remove your goggles/mask and when removing your gown, you pull from the back where it is not contaminated.
