What to do if the time frame to take the NCLEX has expired?

Hi,

To all the wonderful amazing nurses/nursing students/practitioners etc...I need some help:)

I am hoping that someone can offer me some direction, information, or advice in re to my current situation. I graduated Emory SON in 2010; however due to personal reasons I was unable to study for and then take the NCLEX exam on time. Georgia Board of Nursing has a three year time limit from the time you graduate to the time you must pass the NCLEX.

Because of my situation, the Georgia Board did grant me a short extension to prepare for the NCLEX. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to study enough or really get prepared and therefore I failed the NCLEX.

I would love any suggestions or if ya'll have information on what step(s) I can take to be eligible to take the NCLEX again. I can't go through a BSN program again and am wondering if there are other options to become eligible to take the NCLEX and become licensed.

What options does your state give you? Typically, in your situation (i.e., long time frame has elapsed between graduation and taking the NCLEX), a remedial course is required. If that's the case, that would be your one and only resort.

Same thing happened to me. Illinois has 3 years limit to pass the exam. I will be taking the refresher course as required by IL BON

Ok thanks so much, juan de la cruz. Hopefully Georgia, my state, provides or accepts a remedial course because I definitely don't/can't do another 2 year program.

Hi chicagoboy,

Thanks for this information. How did you find out you could take a refresher program rather than having to take another RN 2 yr program. Also, where did you find out how/where to take the refresher program? I'm in Georgia, which also has a 3 yr cap, and I'm trying to learn my options in re taking the NCLEX. Im thinking of taking it in another state that doesn't have a cap or time limit. Did you look into this option?
