For those taking NCSBN/KAPLAN/La Charity review for NCLEX-RN

Hi guys,

I scored a 56% on NCSBN's pre-test (I took this last night and I was literally half asleep). I just finished the first post-test and was only able to get a score of >75% on 2 out of the 8! (There are 9 total but I decided to skip one post-test folder for Q Bank 1)

I also have Kaplan Q Trainers and here are my scores so far:

Q1: 53%

Q2: 67%

Q3: 59%

Q4: 58%

(Taking Q5-7 in a few days...)

I took the 180 question test on the CD that came with the Kaplan 2011-2012 Reviews, Strategies book and was able to score a 72%

For LaCharity, I score anywhere from mid 60s to low 70s. My highest score was a 91% on the electrolyte chapter.

I take my test next week and I'm really nervous because the NCSBN tests (even though I just finished q bank 1) really dropped my confidence level. Do you guys think I'm ready to take the test? Or should I reschedule?

I really just want assurance.

And please don't respond telling me to "not worry about scores" because.. to be honest, some people just HAVE to worry. It's a way of keeping myself sane. And I do read rationales for every question.

Any advice would be appreciated! :)

I have never heard of anyone (locally) using NCSBN. I only have one week left to prepare. I sit for the exam June 4th. I just graduate May 5th so a lot of the material is still pretty fresh. So far to prepare I have been using Rayfield and score above 75% with each test, PrepU through Lippincott (I have already answered over 2,000 questions using this program. It was a mandatory our last semester of school.), NCLEX 4000, and I do have the LaCharity book that I plan to look over. I used it a lot during school so I am already pretty familiar with the Q&A.

Also had to take ATI throughtout school. Made a 96 on their comprehensive predicator (meaning 96% of passing NCLEX on first try.)

Would you recommend NCSBN with only week left?

And do you feel like pharmacology was a big part of your exam?

Yes, I highly recommend NCSBN. I remember getting it about a week and a half before my actual exam JUST to practice answering questions.

Pharmacology was the ONE subject I didn't touch base on and I was still able to pass the exam.

Hi, I graduated from Nursing school last June 2011 and currently studying for my boards. I failed once and signed up for the NCSBN 5 week course. I know they make up the Nclex, but I agree the rationales are not the best. When you took your boards did you pass and how confident were you going in. Are they questions very similar to the practice test? Thanks she

Hi I took NCSBN and Yes the rationals sucked big time. Do not use it as a study study material, my only doing questions. Yes it is worded some what like Nclex. But I will say it is better than Saunders questions. Saunders is for you to remember content. I was scoring high in it. But when I did the actual Nclex what a shock. So I would say use NCSBN as a way to get your mind into Nclex way of questioning, and read your questions properly.

Question to all .... those who did NCSBN online review, did you pass NCLEX PN or RN after reviewing NCSBN? Was it your first time taking NCLEX along with help of NCSBN style questions? Or 2nd time

I did the NCLEX twice, the first time I dont think I prepared enough. The second time I used Kaplan, got 265 questions and failed. Now I am using Kaplan book, Saunders, LaCharity and NCSBN online. I really need to pass

For me it was just like the test. I tried the Kaplan for the nclex-pn and it was long and the questions were very long too.I just took the nclex-pn last week .I failed but what I learned was I was over my head with all the matials I just had to have. When I sit down for the test it look just like the ncsbn test . I didn't take the review for real just don't review. Now the test has change some a few days ago....good luck

I used the NCSBN, I went through all the content.. What i can tell is, that the content is very good, concise and to the point; however, there quite of information that is not in the program, but keep in mind that this is a review and it will cover every single detail.. I suggest, to look up stuff you are not sure or is not very well explained..

as per the questions, some questions were easy and some were hard, but just remember that everybody is different, and some people may retain more info than others, and as a result, they get higher scores.. My scores were anywhere from 45% to 75%but most of the practice questions were below 70%. most of the rationales were simple, easy to understand and once again to the point..were they similar to the actual test? I'll say some of them were..

to answer your question, I took the NClex-rn and pass on the first try, in around 120-130 questions.. A friend of mine did the program also, but she fail in 75 questions, which is the reason i said, everybody is different. what might work for me,might not work for you..

the best advice i can give you is to have your content well packed, read the whole question and understand what is it that they are asking you, read the rationales, and make sure you see why you got it right or wrong..
