Question on RSV...confused!!!

basically RSV is really a contact precaution. but it can also be droplet/airborne because this virus can live for hours outside the body where in you can get a contact. taking into consideration that the the patient is "4months" =infants has a high tendency of passing the virus and basically strong virus.

This may sound really stupid...but I always thought that RSV was only contact precautions.

I just got done doing some questions and this one question in particular I got wrong. In the rationale it says that RSV is airborne... I've never seen that ANYWHERE.

I am going to reword the question since we can't copy/paste:

The stem of the question was about a charge nuirse observing a student nurse that was caring for a 4 month old patient in isolation diagnosed with RSV...

It asks to choose which choice would indicate that the student nurse needs further instruction....

a) putting on sterile gloves each time walking in room

b) wearing a mask each time walking in the room

c) labelling the door that airborne precautions are needed

d) wearing a gown when entering the room to administer medication

The answer is A because it's not necessary to wear STERILE gloves...which I know... I choce C because I knew that RSV was contact...so I kinda thought it was obvious. In the rationale it says that RSV is airborne so it is acceptable to place the label on the door.

Anyone care to share their input, please? I'm confused!!!!!

RVS is both contact and Droplet precuation,

if all else fail in the exam. skin the choices. "ask if it's necessary/desired?" on every choices. and you will get it.
