Nclex RN passed with Hurst!

I haven't really posted much but relied heavily on allnurses during school. I took the nclex yesterday and wanted to share my experience and my study methods.

Studying:

My school used ATI throughout the program and required the comprehensive Rn predictor prior to graduating. I had a 97% chance of passing my first time. I didn't use ATI at l after I graduated. In addition, my school used the Hurst review (4 day love review) and let me say that I loved hurst!! I spent about 2 weeks reviewing the videos, going over about 2 topics a day and doing correlating questions from Lacharity's PDA. I also met with a few friends from school to quiz each other and that helped solidify the info in my mind. After the videos were all done, I focused on solely questions and doing the q review. I scored anywhere from 88-96/125 with my average being 92/125. Hurst says 84/125 is average passing level.

Testing:

I did nothing the day before the test study wise. I drank wine, went out with friends, painted my nails, anything to fight the urge to study.

Day of the test I was so nervous! I said a little prayer to Hashem and began my test. It started off pretty easy and after 10 questions I was getting SATA every other question. I had a lot of priority, conference, and drag and drop. I didn't feel like I truly knew any of the answers. I felt like I couldn't pick between 2 answers and ABC, maslows, assess vs implement, etc. we're not applicable. I just did my best and then at 80 questions the screen went blue and my heart dropped. I did the pvt after seeing "delivery successful" and got the good pop up! I can't believe it! I should have my license tomorrow.

This morning, the day after the test, I was offered a full time position working nights at an inpatient psych facility (the job I've been wanting).

All this to say that it's possible! Don't stress, believe in your self and find peace in knowing that no amount of studying will truly prepare you.

Congrats on your success RN! I am using Hurst as well. I was wondering if you used any additional material to study medications?

Thank you! I actually didn't study medications. I felt as though I had been exposed to the most common meds throughout nursing school and couldn't find a rhyme or reason in studying them so I just didn't. It worked out, because I only had 1 med. Keep in mind though, we no longer get both generic and trade on the nclex. Keep up with hurst though and know your core content! Good luck it's a doable test!

Thanks for your post! Were the questions worded similarly to ATI and Hurst questions? Also, would you say the questions you encountered on NCLEX were around the same difficulty of questions on the ATI comp. and Hurst tests? I'm taking my NCLEX in two weeks and would appreciate the advice! Thank you and congratulations! :)

Yes, they are worded similar to Hurst q review questions more so than ATI, which to me, felt a little more straight forward. The beginning of my test was very similar in difficulty to Hurst, and the answers were pretty obvious. As the test went on, the questions didn't necessarily get harder, but the answers that I wanted to be there for me to pick weren't there. (If that makes sense?) It was harder to feel confident that I was picking the right answer...but apparently that's good and those are passing level questions!

Congratulation did you use anything else apart from hurst for the question or is HURST enough .

My school used Prep U (nclex 10,000) and I renewed my membership to have access to those questions. I did like it, very similar to ATI. I also used the Lacharity priority book but didn't get through the whole thing and, quite honestly, didn't do that well with those questions. They were hard!

Thank you so much for your helpful honest advice, Rachel. I did the Hurst 2 weeks ago and I test next week. I have been stressing majorly about how applicable the Hurst questions really are to the actual NCLEX exam.

I got a 94% predicted probability of passing NCLEX from the ATI, and so far my Q review scores are 82-88. How literally did you feel like you knew all of the book material "without a hesitation and without a doubt?" I'm a bit hung-up on that because I'm doing decently on Q reviews and old practice tests but there's no way I could straight memorize the whole Hurst book. I'm also hung up on whether it's more important to study now or move on to questions for practice....I want to trust that I am getting enough practice from my current sources but tell me what you think! Thanks SO much in advance and congratulations on your new job! I have a 20-week L&D residency waiting for me if I pass this next Wednesday....
