Nclex in 2 weeks... feeling defeated:(

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey guys ! I have been reading many of these forum as I have been preparing for the nclex. I did Hurst and have gone over the topics in the book. I have done 2 of the practice tests so far got 61% on the first one and 57% on the second one. I have been using uworld as well. I enjoy the rationales but I am doing terrible in uworld :( I started off doing 10 to 20 questions per quiz but decided it was important to try to sit down and do 75 questions in 1 go. I've done a little over 600 questions and my overall percentage is at 51%. I find the questions so hard and specific it's stressing me out. I feel like I don't know anything! :( not sure what to do at this point. Feel so nervous and scared thinking about changing my date. I plan on finishing the rest of the Hurst practice tests and hopefully get through uworld!! I score anywhere from 40s to high 50s % on 75 q practice tests. Stressed out !! Don't know what to do ahhhhh 😢😢 any advice ??

Just keep doing questions and go over every rationale right or wrong.

I am in the same boat regarding uworld. My story is that I failed my first attempt (I only used the mastery app and saunders questions) and started studying immediately on Uworld. My average is 68 but ONLY cause I was using it last month on a shared uworld account too for a little bit so I am getting some re run questions.

I feel absolutely defeated studying for this nclex. Doing question after question all summer has me feeling like taking off all my clothes and running down the street. Like you I sometimes get a whole bunch wrong and feel discouraged but trust me when I say its just Uworlds way of preparing you. Read those rationales very carefully and know that its really helpful. Soon enough youll start picking up. I've read many different forums of people with low averages, even to the 40s, and still passing.

I'm doing 75 a day (started around the 17th last month) and its mentally draining, takes me about 5 hours to do. Wish I could give advice on how this will fair out but my exams not till August 2nd. Good luck to both of us :)

my advice is that if you are debating changing the date and you truly don't feel ready, I would go ahead and change it. I debated changing mine, kept it and ended up failing. I knew I wasn't ready but I took it anyways hoping I'd pass. I wouldn't push it back too far though, maybe just another week or two at the most.

The main thing about UWorld is to read the rationales for every question and not worry about the percentages too much. My overall percentage of correct answers on UWorld was 55%. I felt reading the rationales for questions I got wrong and for the ones I got right really helped me. I used UWorld and took my NCLEX today. I was able to answer some questions because of the rationales on UWorld. As long as you can understand the questions and the concepts needed to answer the questions, you're gonna do great! If you really, truly feel that you are unprepared, delay the exam. Like I said, I took my NCLEX today and to be honest, I don't think anyone walked into that exam feeling 100% confident. You can't know everything, but if you practiced questions and reviewed, reviewed, reviewed, you're gonna do fantastic! :)

I prepared for NCLEX using Saunders as a resource.. the highest I ever scored on any test was in the 70% range, but I felt quite comfortable with my test taking. I walked into NCLEX and was immediately discouraged. It is a HARD test. No matter how much or how little you prepare, it is very hard and I left the exam feeling like I failed miserably. But I didn't - I passed. My biggest piece of advice is to trust your gut. Everyone knows what they need the most - if you need more time to prepare, give yourself that time. But don't forget that NCLEX is also a mental test. Trust yourself, believe in yourself. Find motivation and encouragement. I wouldn't be discouraged by your scores on these practice tests because NCLEX isn't meant for you to score 100% on. We prepared hard for this one big test throughout nursing school. You're more ready than you think :)

First, I would recommend only doing about 20 questions per quiz. I tried doing 75 and it was just too much and I would lose focus part way through. My nursing school said we should just do 265 questions at a time to build up "test endurance". In my opinion, that's ridiculous. Believe me your brain will be running at 110% during test time.

Second, don't focus on the percentage. The best thing about UWorld is it starts teaching you how to answer SATA. My NCLEX had none of the content that UWorld was specific on. I went in basically mumbling ABGs and lab values to myself, and there were literally no questions specifically on things I studied AT ALL.

That doesn't mean don't skimp on content you know you are weak on though, the test is totally random. Just calm yourself, two weeks is plenty of time and the longer you wait after graduation the worse it will be.

If you don't mind me asking, Wheat, did you feel that Uworld didn't help with the Nclex? I'm retaking using it as my only source and I really do not want to fail again :(. I heard its one of the best sources out there

Hi! Don't lose hope. Try to focus on the rationales and you will learn a lot. I got only 52.7% on Uworld and when I tried to answer my friends Kaplan Qtrainers I got 72%. I again answered Uworld by using another email to test myself if something retained in my head, Im getting 68-82%(97th perecentile) which means I really did learned a lot. I'll Pray for you. Ill take my exam 1 week after you so let's see. God Bless us.

Thanks Lulu! I'm in the 93rd percentile but just cant help feeling like this nclex will still throw those crazy curve balls. Thanks a lot I'm praying for us too. Good luck friend
