NCLEX anxiety

by packnrn

Well I am sure that I am familiar with panic type anxiety now. I took the HESI to graduate with a score of 1019. I managed B's throughout nursing school. However, as I take test after test after test, I consistently score between 65-75 percent. I have even taken the Kaplan test prep course. Is there hope or should I pursue alternative career choices??? I test on the 13th and therefore have only one week to learn EVERYTHING.

What else are you using to prepare for the NCLEX exam?

I am using Saunders, Lippincott, NSNA and Mosby's. I am doing questions, reviewing the rationale for right and wrong and reading on subjects that I find I have either forgotten or don't know too much about.

How many questions are you doing per day? If more than 100, then you are just oversaturating your brain and will not retain the information.

I do about 200 in separate sessions throughout the day. This includes the interruptions by my husband, son, and researching things I had forgotten. It just seems that some of the questions are worded so strangely that I feel I wouldn't get the correct answer even if I did "know everything"

I don't know if it is any comfort but I used a kaplan review book, did the test in the book, the test on the CD given with the book, went to the local library which subscribes to a testing service that has practice NCLEX tests and took both of those. I'm not exactly sure what I scored on the Kaplan tests, but I scored 70% on one test at the library and 75% on the second test at the library. The next day (two weeks ago) I took the boards and it shut off at 75 questions and I passed!! I bet that you will be fine. What I think must be important is not so much the percentage correct on the practice tests, but that you understand the rationale behind the answers, so you don't make the mistake twice. I hope this makes sense as I realize my grammar tonight is not the best. Good Luck and remember MASLOW, MASLOW, MASLOW!
