i was just wondering for anyone who knows how kaplan scores...i'm not in the review class, i purchased the kaplan strategies book from barnes and noble. it included a 180 item practice test for the computer. i spent most of the afternoon taking it (sigh) and it said i had received 74%. i'm assuming that anything over 50% or so is passing, am i right? is a 74% with kaplan good? can i somewhat breathe a sigh of relief that i may actually pass nclex next week?

as you know, we cannot give you false re-assurance, it is non-therapautic, but a score of 74 is very good with kaplan. hope that helps.

your scores are good.

Kaplan recommends that you score a 65% or better on their trainer exams to consider yourself "ready" to take the NCLEX. That said, I've seen loads of people getting in the high forties and low fifties and still passing without too much issue. I think Kaplan must want to make sure they don't pay out too often on their pass-or-refund guarantee!

Your scores are fine, then. :)

thank you everyone for your feedback. i know that nothing is certain, especially in terms of the nclex. i continue to study and practice, but i was curious what kaplan recommended for their assessment tests. i've been trying to balance between practicing questions and reading my saunders review book. it's getting harder and harder to fall asleep at night, i just keep thinking about next thursday, and how this time next weekend, i could actually possibly be an rn after all this time and work! :nurse:

thanks again for your input! have a great labor day!!

hi heather75.. your scores are great, i was actually wondering how you prepared for nclex..did you finish the whole kaplan book before you tested on that 180 item practice test? i took the kaplan trainers and am scoring in the 60's, and im worried it seems like i have low scores. according to the test analysis i was poor on physiological adaptation, and as ive seen on my results i have been consistently low in that area, however, the critical thinking and analysis part i get really high percentages. so now, i am trying to go back reviewing content, which is not adviseable according to some posts here, and i personally think that its not the way to go now especially that my exam date is fast approaching. what to do? hope you can advise me or share me how you're doing it..i could always learn from other people's experiences :wink2: this site has really guided me..

thanks a lot! and may god give you lots of wisdom on the day of your exam....god bless.

hi loubio

i read through the kaplan book (remember, i'm not in the course, i only bought the strategies book at barnes and noble) and then i took the test that was on the cd-rom after. for the past 3 weeks, i was reviewing content from the saunders book, answeing questions here and there, but this past week, i really focused more on the questions and less on content. after taking several practice tests yesterday, i spent today going over content that i knew i needed to look over (particularly endocrine and labs). i'm planning on hitting those questions again tomorrow. i also have read many people say you shouldn't review content, but i know i have beneftited from having gone over content as well as practicing with questions. there's only so much you can remember from school without at least review! i haven't been "studying", just trying to quickly read over the outlines that are in the saunders book.

i don't know if that helps, but that's how i've been trying to tackle this monster! how are you doing? when do you test? good luck to you too, and thank you for your kind words, may god bless you through your studies and testing as well!

Rest assured: 75 on the Kaplan test is GOOD. Good luck when you test- God will grant you wisdom and an open mind if you let Him...so on test day, have faith in both God and YOURSELF!

Hi Heather! again...:monkeydance:

Thanks for sharing your insights...I have done reviewing content with Saunders the past month, have taken the practice sets and read the rationales..though Im not certain if I have retained all the information...Im thinking I did not cos Im not doing well with content area, and thats according to Kaplan. So I do agree with you in brushing up on content where my weakness lies...Thats what Im doing now....It makes me feel better when I answer a particular question that I have knowledge on, rather than answering a question and getting it right because I made an intelligent guess. By the way, I am scheduled to take the test on October 18 but Im still looking for available schedules and move it a little earlier like Sept 24th, that would be the perfect date for me. I dont want to wait longer since my short term memory can do just as much...hahaha

Thanks again...
