I only used one Resource & Passed with 75 questions

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey guys,

Just want to let you know that I used Hurst to study for NCLEX-RN, and I did not use any other study material.

I made sure I knew the core content, I listened to videos twice, made note-cards, and I studied, studied, studied their material!!

They have 6 practice tests (125 each) and those were the only practice questions I completed. ( I did these 6 days before my test!)

I Love Hurst, because I learned a LOT, but I was still worried that what if it wasn't enough? I kept asking myself should I do more practice questions? Should I use the Saunders Book? Should I purchase something else? Well I didn't have time because I spent all my time studying Hurst!

So the day had come to take the test, and I passed with 75 questions!!

Also I want to let you guys know that I wasn't an A student in nursing school. I always struggled! I had taken my exit Hesi numerous times, and I barely passed it. So going into NCLEX I was afraid, but I did it. So if I can do it you can do it!

Good luck to everyone!

When I took it in 1999 I only used a Lippincott and Mosby book, they both had a CD-ROM full of 1000 questions. I reviewed them non stop. I almost always scored in the 50%-60% range. When I took the NCLEX I paased with only having 75 questions, I was shocked I passed. I know many spent alot more money with reviews and they still can't pass. I really don't understand why? I have extreme test anxiety. I only have an ADN. I did however graduate from a university, not a community college. I am not sure if my education or nursing program was better. I just am amazed when I see so many responses on here, or I hear of co-workers that can't pass the NCLEX. Maybe it is me, it just didn't seem that hard.

Awww thank you ! You are so sweet!

And I love your attitude! I love it! Good for you! I'm glad that now you know what to do differently this time around, and I wish you the best of luck!! I can not wait when you pass NCLEX! :)

If you have any more questions just let me know!!

Thank you. And yes, prayer DOES work.:)

Hey I wrote back to you in the message, but it is not showing that I responded. :/ So I am going to paste here what I wrote to you. Sorry!

"Yes just like that! Also, I would do this as well:

1. What are s/s of metabolic acidosis?

2. what are causes of metabolic acidosis?

3. What is the treatment for metabolic acidosis?

Each question was on a different notecard & the answers were on the back.

More examples:

1. Peritoneal Dialysis:there are 2 types, what are they? Can you describe them?

Answer on the back: 1. CAPD. Client must have lots of energy because it is 4xday, 7xweek. Not recommended for pt with arthritis or disc cuz it puts a lot of pressure on back

2. CCPD. This method happens at night, & its disconnected in morning. They have more freedom!

2. Peritoneal Dialysis: 1. color of drainage? 2. what do you do if fluid isnt draining completely?

Answer on back: 1. You want color to be clear;straw colored. CLoudy = infection!

2. Turn pt side to side!

When reviewing the notecards i tried my best to answer the notecard without looking at the back. If I couldnt remember the answer, I would then look on the back for the answer & I kept repeating it & repeating it. Also, as long as I was able to understand the disease and why they have those signs & symptoms, and why we do certain interventions, that's when I knew I was understanding the material. That's what Hurst is about, understand the "why's"! Once I understood the "why's" I was more confident & this made a difference when walking into that test center and answering questions!

I hope I answered your question, if not then feel free to ask me to be more specific! Or if you just have more questions let me know! :) "

No disrespect but you took the test in 1999. That's almost 15 years ago, nursing has been the same but the way NCLEX tests has changed. It even changed April of this year. I'm happy for you that you passed but no need to belittle those who haven't passed. Some people who take the NCLEX English isn't their first language so I give them credit for taking a test that contains medical jargon in language that's not native to them. When you get hired for a job they won't ask you "by the way how many times did you take the NCLEX?l" all that matters is that you passed! I'm happy you didn't find it hard but what's easy for some isn't as easy for others

Yes it may be amazing to notice the difference in why some pass the first time or maybe the 15th time. However, learning comes in many different forms based off an individual's learning style, cognitive ability, stressors, comprehension potential, and an instructors' ability to facilitate and design the specific lectures to meet the needs of EVERY student within his/her classroom.

Although your statement can and possibly will be perceived as a negative indication that if one doesn't pass on the first try like you (including you anxiety and average percentages) then there's something clearly wrong with them. You may have had absolutely fabulous, supportive, encouraging, and motivating instructors. Who knows what goes on with each individual? It's completely different for each person.

I agree with you, NCLEX was not a difficult exam. FOR ME it was not difficult. I will not say what it was for someone else or impose that they should have passed because "I" found it to be "EASY. I would then be categorized as being demeaning and discouraging. As a respectful and kind future nurse with the position of caring for and teaching others, I would never do that to anyone.

I never tell my child, "When I was younger....." just as other nurses shouldn't say, "we had to take a 3 day exam, answer 500 + questions....." Society has evolved and is based off technology. My child has access to programs that are designed to meet immediate needs. However, I wouldn't say, "When I was in high school I had to do PASCAL, COBAL, FORTRAN (whatever it was called) in addition to creating a flowchart, you have it so easy." So what. So freaking what. I'm happy technology has evolved and we all need to embrace it instead of criticizing others because we didn't have it "easy". I'm quite sure no one is complaining about EMAR.:)

I do know this, for those who didn't do well on NCLEX, you and I didn't fail, we are NOT failures. We were UNSUCCESSFUL with passing the exam. We have an opportunity to sit for the exam as many times as allowed. Once we pass, we are just like any nurse that passed the first time. A nurse. :) it is just like a toddler learning to walk or use the toilet.......when they are ready and properly guided.

However, congratulations to you and passing NCLEX on the first try. I'm quite sure for the past 14 years you have evolved to become a wonderful nurse. Best wishes with your future endeavors.

We used ATI as part of our curriculum and I used nothing else. I took a one month breather after finals, then did some spot review for a week, and then took the test ... 75 questions, 60 minutes.

Thx CareMare :) My scores as of today are 91, 85, 85 and Im taking another one tomorrow. I'm feeling much more confident and I'm understanding the content much better thx to Aunt Marlene and God The Father. My scores in my Kaplan qTrainer are 63% on #5 & #6. This is a great sign. QTrainer #6 (200 questions) is all application and analysis style so I know I can pass. God didn't bring me this far to leave me now. Thx for sharing your prayer. I will repeat it on the day of my exam because it truly expresses my heart. Ur awesome. I will keep u posted :)

I took the NCLEX today and got the good pop up :) Praise the Lord. My version of the exam came straight out of the Hurst packet! I'm sooo happy. I can't wait to see my name on the bon site for the first time. I'm going to pay for my unofficial results as soon as they are ready! It feels super good :roflmao:
