Best way to Study for Nclex-Suggestions

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello, I just graduated nursing school and I am waiting to receive my authorization to text from the board of Nursing. I am doing the NCLEX RN review from ncsbn learning extension. For anyone that doesn't know what that is-it's a review written by those that write the NCLEX. I'm doing the 5 wk course, only on day 7 but I feel like I am not doing enough ?'s and I don't have time to do the review each day and do ?'s. Anyone that feels like this review was enough or wasn't enough or feels like doing ?'s everyday is better? Any suggestions would be welcome, especially if someone did this review. Thankyou.

I didn't use the NCSBN Learning Extension as my tool for studying, but most people say to do lots and lots of questions. Also, know your content. You need a good, solid foundation of the disease pathophysiologies in order to be able to answer the questions. Whether you do questions every single day or not is a personal preference.

When it comes to studying, you need to focus on quality over quantity. Part of that involves your learning style. Some people study well in groups, other people get distracted. Some people need to hear information, some people need to see it.

For me, the process of writing helps me learn. So when I was watching the Kaplan videos where they were reviewing physiology, I paused constantly in order to write down what was being said. I filled up a whole notebook. I can't sit there and memorize information, but if I integrate it into what I already know, then I can learn it. So it's better for me to look up a med when I don't know the answer to a question than to try to memorize facts about the various meds.

The key thing is that you need to know yourself and how you learn best, and use that to your advantage.

NCSBN is a good resource for a comprehensive review; however, if questions are what you need, go straight to the questions.

I used NCSBN for the exposure to the NCLEX format, since they are the makers of the NCLEX; I also used Lippincott, LaCharity, and Saunders for review of questions.

I know of 25% of my cohort who used NCSBN only that passed the NCLEX for the first time; I felt that it was beneficial in terms of the questions were similar; I felt very comfortable in the comes questions that I came across in my exam.

I graduated in December and I too am waiting on my ATT. So nervous. I am working mostly on Kaplan prep. Hoping it pays off ;)
