Any such thing as too many review materials? (Kaplan & Hurst)

Im using Kaplan On-Demand, just finished the Hurst Review on Wednesday, and have the LaCharity book, and the Kaplan Strategies book as well.

Im most concerned about how Im going to be able to study using both the Hurst and Kaplan materials. Hurst drills that if you know everything in their book you will pass NCLEX, but I like how Kaplan tells you what areas you need to remediate. I want to try to learn the Hurst book inside and out but I also want to go through all of the Kaplan lectures and their content book.

My problem is that I know that this is way too much. It makes me crazy just thinking about it. But I feel like I paid for it, so I should use it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can condense this? Especially if you used both Hurst and Kaplan as well. How did you study using both resources?

Hi! I too have completed hurst review and I have the 2012-13 Kaplan book. I feel like the hurst review is a great review for content and Kaplan teaches you the strategies to answer the NCLEX questions. With that being said, I don't think that it's too much. I feel like I really need both and lacharity is excellent to have from what I heard because it mainly teaches how to answer the priority/delegation questions which is what mostly everyone says majority of their test was.

I take NCLEX in exactly 2 weeks and I've been doing questions day in and out, trying to perfect my strategies for answering the priority and delegation questions. Good luck to us both!!

I am just ending my Kaplan class (it was already paid for initially when I started school so I never felt I was shelling out bucks for it now that I'm using it for review); I also purchased HURST online review because I heard great things about it especially if you need a concise content review and I really LOVE it!! I really needed something for content and while I have the Saunders book, the massiveness of it overwhelmed me and I just couldn't sit down and read it, but I can listen to Aunt Marlene and the other Hurst instructors all day long. I also have the Lacharity book which my Kaplan instructor stated is a must have and compliments Kaplan perfectly.

I've driven myself up the wall coming onto this site and reading what others are using/have used and feeling that I should go out and get that too! But I finally realized that if I stick with these 3, hopefully I will be in good shape....I honestly think they are a triple threat! I think they all compliment each other very well....Kaplan has great strategies and Hurst has strengthened my content knowledge, which I believe has helped with my Kaplan scores (started off in low 50s, now I'm in 60s and even some 70s in the QBank). Good luck studying...I think you are on a good path!!

In my opinion, all three are irreplaceble. the daily Q-bank is of course crucial and HURST review is so fun to listen to. Good luck.

I just wanted to know what others thought. I think I'll just stick with Hurst strictly for content and use Kaplan for the strategies and for the QTrainers and QBanks. I agree with you Mya, the Saunders book is ridiculously big and the book that came with the Kaplan course is just as huge! I would never be able to make it through those books. But I figure that I was able to sit through the Hurst review and write down every single thing so I should be able to go through it a few more times to review.

I guess I was just starting to get overwhelmed by how I would be able to get through it all. You guys helped a lot. Thanks!

You are absolutely right, starmickey03, with all these new technology tools and simplified versions of the content that can be heard by our ears, who can handle reading such huge books. My eyes hurt just looking at thick book like Saunders. I know it is a very powerful book, I retain information better when listening, especially because I do not see the amount of printed information. I intentioanlly choose to be in denial about how much material it is that we need to review, so Kaplan and Hurst successfully help me to avoid seeing it every time I review their tools :))
