My mother is an OR nurse in the Philippines and has had 18yrs experience in the ICU. She is 57 yrs old and would like to review the NCLEX by listening to tapes. She says she gets tired easily by reading.

I've already explained to her to review by reading, answering test questions, and practice computer exams. But she insists she retains better by listening.

Is there any good review tapes to listen to?

Helen Feuer Nursing Review; type this in your browser and go to the site. They are phenomenal and made me remember a great deal. In fact, I still listen to them, now, just to remember key points. Wish mom luck for me!

For foreign nurses that never trained in the US, I only recommend a review book so that they can go back immediately and find the answers that they do not know. And especially if they have been out of school for that long. They are essentially starting their preparation all over again. The tapes do not give enough of the basic information that they need to get started with.

From the conversations I have had with foreign nurses is that their perspective of diet and appropiate toys for children to play with are totally different from ours because of availability. I think that learning what our culture determines as effective can be a major challenge to then, based on the talks I had with some of them, and it is totally understandable. A review book from here and a strong review course is effective. That is one of the things that the Helen Feuer Nursing Review emphasizes on.
