Am I ready to retake NCLEX?

Nursing Students NCLEX

I failed my first attempt in early January. I used Kaplan pretty much exclusively to study the first time. I decided that, after failing the first time, that the Kaplan rationales were not enough for me. I signed up for both Hurst and UWorld to study for my second attempt. I watched all of the Hurst videos and completed the entire UWorld QBank. I finished UWorld with a 57% average. I took detailed notes on every single rationale of UWorld, whether I got it wrong or not.

After completing UWorld, I decided to take Kaplan's trainer 6 and 7 since those are supposed to be good indicators of whether someone will pass or not. I scored 71.5% on QT 6 and 61.9% on QT 7. I was worried that I would remember the questions and answers but I didn't remember any of them when retaking them lol. And I always score super high in psychosocial.. not sure if that is giving me too much of a bump for these scores. I wanted to complete LaCharity but I only managed to do 7 chapters, with scores ranging from 48% to 80% =/

I rescheduled my test already but am soo nervous. I'm so worried about not passing even though I feel like I've made really good progress.

Hi,

I'm so sorry you didn't pass but don't feel ashamed! The NCLEX is not an easy exam and it's not meant to be easy. My advice to you is to do as many practice questions as you can, expose yourself to NCLEX-style questions and know how to take the exam. I know you know how to do that since you said you used Kaplan. I never used Uworld but I have heard they provide questions very similar to the NCLEX. If you have Instagram, follow Tootrn - she provides NCLEX-style questions as well. Do her questions whenever you have free time, waiting on line at a store, before bed. Just keep doing questions! I have confidence you will pass the second time :)

It's been almost ten years since I took the NCLEX, but I am pretty sure the following still applies..

- Use Kaplan for testing strategies

- Use Saunders for test question content

I used additional books by Saunders and Lippincott, etc. I had the Kaplan Qbank as well. I'm an audio visual learner. So, watching youtube videos really helped me. You can find so many videos on just about any topic you need. The memory book photos helped me as well. When I was studying in my NCLEX books, I reviewed whatever content I got wrong by referring to that section in my textbooks. I would also watch a couple of videos on the content as well. I can read forever and not learn a thing it seems, but when I watch a video on the content it all becomes clear.

UPDATE: I took my test on March 10th and passed. :D
