Advice on where to begin studying for NCLEX-PN

Hello All!

I will be graduating in 4 days!:grad: I have been studying for the NCLEX since last August when class started back up. I'm glad to have ATI and all that other stuff out the way. I still have tension though.:uhoh3: Is anyone going through the same thing? I just feel like I have one more hurdle to jump and then I'm able to relax. The reason for the thread is....I just wanted to ask those who have taken the NCLEX what advice do you have for those of us who are preparing to sit for the exam? I have all the material references I need. I guess what I really want to know is....can you share with us what things you saw on NCLEX that we really need to know? Like the most common drugs, diseases, labs etc..I feel like I can't know everything but I need to have some knowledge base for some of everything. If that even makes sense.:eek:

Any advice would be appreciated. Again thans in advanced. :tku:

everything that i was told to study wasnt on the test. I really dont know what to tell you other than how to answer the questions like:

1. Is the question positive or negative, what nurse should do, the best or first action to implement.

2. Find the key word in the question

3. Rephrase question in your own words

4. Rule out your options

Respond to the questions based on:

ABC's, scientific, behavioral, sociologic principles, priciples of teaching/learning, maslow, nursing process, what's in the question (no more, no less), NCLEX ideal hospital, basic A&P, and of course critical thinking!

read the questions very carefully.

Always think...safety, safety, safety!

These tips are from the EVOLVE Live review class that I took March 25 and 26 of this year. I used these tips and passed my NCLEX-PN April 20th.

One person's test isn't going to be like the next person's test. The best thing you can do is prepare thoroughly on every subject in your review books. Good luck.

Thankyou forthe advice. Ifiguredyou really can't go by what others have seen on the exam because you may get something different. You are right.....first you need to find out what the question is asking and determine if it's nurse process, maslow or ABC's.

Well graduation was lastnight and I'm very happy that part is over. Now....back to studying the NCLEX.

don't over it though... i just took the nclexpn may 5 and i found out yesterday that i passed!! :) - this is what did...

1. dont wait too long to take your exam ... take it while everything is fresh in your brain

2. i got this book at the library kaplan "strategies for the practical nursing licensing exam" 2010 edition

3. i took practice tests from kaplan and saunders over and over again... after i took a test, i went back and reviewed every question... why i got it wrong or why i got it right.

4. review your lab values and meds... along with calculations... and again, do as many practice tests as you can and don't forget to review the rationales ...

the school has to send all the transcripts and copy of diploma. (hate having to wait on the school:mad:) once that is done and i pass background check....bon will send my att. i plan on getting the first test date. i have the kaplan strategies 2010, saunders 4th edition. i plan on hitting my weak areas first then going back over all body systemsl. i really appreciate your advice. :clown:
