265 questions ...My road to NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi all....I took the test on June 27, 2012, in Illinois, i was a nervous wreck and I convinced myself that I fail. Most of my friends took it and pass at 75....one pass at 121....i was freaking out when mine roll pass 75, 100, 200, 250....ended up taking the entire damn test. I was sooooo depress and started preparing for the worse...=) what to do when i fail. sooo i read up on the PVT for 2 days straight. when i got the "GOOD POP UP" the first time, i was skeptical. I was like, what if this is a glitch or something. I kept searching in all the forum online to find latest news and results on PVT to ease my mind...lmao...I literally did the PVT multiple times per hour for two days straight...lol...and this morning as soon as i woke up ...i did the PVT one last time then I PAID, CHECK, AND ..."PASS"...I scream and woke my babygirl up....=) happy as hell. it took me 5 years, tons of student loans, and lots of family problems to graduate nursing school..i took 2 years to off because of personal reasons and I return to nursing school for my last semester on spring of 2012 and I was so bless...I pass all my classes and graduated. It wasn't an easy road either...finishing my last semester with a newborn at home and family trouble doesn't make nursing school a happy place to be. So you can see why I am super excited to finally accomplish this goal. I was so proud of myself because I finish nursing school, despite the emotional crap I had to deal with in my family. I told my husband that I am so deserving this after 10 + years of schooling after graduating high school. I can finally tell people and be proud saying it too when they ask me what do I with my life now?...I can finally say...I AM A NURSE.....=) So now ...onto my next chapter ...get a job...get experiences....and find that dream job..=)

As for my NCLEX review: (If anyone wants to know)

I did the Kaplan course. I love the practice questions but their book is too general. I use Saunders Comprehensive Review for the content review because it was more detail and easy to understand. (PS: ALL THE CONTENTS COVERED IN ALL OF THE NCLEX REVIEW BOOKS AND COURSES SUCH AS ATI AND KAPLAN ARE EXACTLY THE SAME) I answers ALL of the Kaplan practice questions, and a few hundreds with the Saunders. My scores for Kaplan was terrible, I always score average. That's why I was scare because I don't know if I can score above the passing level when it come to the real test when I'm so "AVERAGE" with Kaplan. I also went to Barnes and Noble and look at their NCLEX books and do some practice tests, questions, and review content there too. I didn't buy the books because of financial problems. I love Barnes and Noble, it's like a library with new updated books. just don't mess up the book and make crease in it and stuff. I did a few hundreds of practice questions per day....well...most of the time. its hard to even get out of the house to study because of my baby and sometime "little help from my own family". I had 4 weeks to prepare for the test after the Kaplan Review course....so i had plenty of time to review. My contents was terrible...Since i was out of school for so long I forgot some of it...it felt like studying things from scratch....it was very frustrated. Nevertheless, the Kaplan review course was very helpful...and their 100% guarantee really help too because even if I fail, I can get my money back and study on my own because I already knew what type of questions Kaplan and NCLEX have so i can study on my own for the next test ( IF I FAIL).

Tips for NCLEX:

if you take Kaplan Review course: great! review the content that you DON'T KNOW very carefully. Because I answers all of 265 questions, I can tell you that Kaplan contents and NCLEX test contents are very similar. the conditions such as Parathyroid, thyroid, renal, liver, brain, psychs diagnoses, ...are very much similar. So if you review those content from kaplan and understand the concept of those conditions you will do fine.

if you don't want to put money into a review course. then do what I did, go to Barnes and Nobles and look at their NCLEX review books. those book cover the SAME content that Kaplan have but ....in my opinion...Kaplan questions are more harder and more similar to NCLEX because ALL of the questions in Kaplan are PASSING LEVEL QUESTIONS. Those questions in other books are ...I think ...more easier level. Nevertheless.....the bookstore is a GREAT resources for those who can't afford a review course.

one more thing, this one advice from my Kaplan instructor that I will never forget. If you get a lot of Multiple Multiple questions then be HAPPY...those are the Above passing level questions. I was super happy when i got 2-3 multiple multiple in a row...that mean I am above the passing. so don't be afraid of those questions. In the bookstore, I notice there's a book that dedicated to alternative questions... you can get that and do those questions as much as you can and you will DO GREAT

Overall:

My NCLEX experience was brutal. I took only one break to go to the bathroom and that's it. I was too nervous to eat. That test was the hardest test I have ever taken. I told my friends, I rather give birth than to go through that again....LOL but if I fail, I know how to study for it next time. So good luck to those who are preparing and awaiting to take that terrible exam. I told one of my nursing school instructor, I have heard so much good thing about stopping at 75 and bad things about 265 questions that I was convinced I fail. But apparently I am one of those people that you probably don't hear much about....took the entire test and pass.

PS: the PVT really works..at least for me. =)

enough rambling ...=) good luck and blessed be
