moving to St. Louis?

So I recently graduated with my ASN and passed my boards here in NY. I know I don't want to stay here for various reasons. I have been considering moving to St. Louis for some time now. I visited once and absolutely loved the city and all the things there were to do. It seems like a new grad friendly city (atleast compared to here) and combined with the lower cost of living it seems like a great idea. How do you all find the job market for new grads in St Louis? Also, my one other concern is that I would be relocating there with my family ( husband and 2 young children) I know that the statistics regarding crime aren't pretty, but I also dont believe they paint the whole picture? Do you have concerns regarding safety? What are your thoughts? Any input would be appreciated :-) Thanks

I am across the state in Kansas City. A very different culture from St. Louis. I don't know where in NY you are from, but St. Louis in my humble opinion is the PITS! Snobbish, not friendly, very spread out to get anywhere. I could go on and on. There are suburbs, less crime, but can't comment on the schools. I have worked there quite a bit....I recently came back to KC from being in the South for 12 years.......but St Louis has not changed. This is just my opinion, but I sure would not live there. St. Louis is like any big city in the sense that there are good places to live and bad. You just have to do your research, and using a crime data map wouldn't hurt. I moved to St. Louis several years ago knowing little about the area and had to do the same. I ended up finding a really nice place to rent by going through a real estate/rental company that could show me around town. If you would like any further details, feel free to pm me.

The job market in STL for new grads is awful particularly for ADNs. Do not move here. We are not, however, snobbish and dangerous. I've lived in both KC and STL and would prefer STL any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Thanks for touching on the job market over there. I guess the job market for a new grad adn isn't good anywhere. I just thought it would be a little better than here. Btw when I visited STL most of the people I encountered were super friendly and it didn't seem like a dangerous place. Thanks again :-)

Hmmm. rnroxanne doesn't seem to know much of anything about St. Louis. While I'm still a student and can't comment on the job market, I can say that I really like St. Louis. Yeah, there are a few bad thing about it, like any other city. But there is a ton to do that is either free or inexpensive. The whole city is surrounded by suburbs. And snobbish? I just don't get those comments.

I graduated in May, and I am still job hunting. It's not a great market for new grads, but there are jobs out there. As for the STL area, most people do not actually live in the city, they live in the suburbs. I have grown up in this area, both in IL and now I am in MO, and absolutely love it. Some communities are better than others, however i feel safe pretty much everywhere I go. I don't find people to be snobbish at all, unless maybe you happen to be in a more snobbish area, but that is pretty much anywhere.
