    Just wanted to chime in.....

I am currently awaiting my 3rd semester in the RN program at Hinds AHC. There is so much negativity said in regards to Hinds, but I disagree with all of it. Hinds is a very hard program and the instructors do expect alot out of the students. You will spend many nights staying up till 2am and then waking up at 4:30am to get to clinicals... you will study hours on end for a test that you end up failing.... You will have skills evaluations and then unit tests 2 days apart and feel like you are going to pull ALL your hair out... This is the true part, but if you put your mind to it you will pass. You are going to be a nurse. You need to possess the skills to manage your time effectively, to own your mistakes and realize that YOU are doing something wrong if you study hours on end and still fail a test, you dig for the underlying reason as to what you are doing wrong (just like you do with your patients.... you always have to find the underlying reasons... there always is one). All of the hardships Hinds puts you through are for a reason.... when you pass their program i promise you will feel much more confident than the nurses comming out of the "easy" programs.

Ok.... here are a few tips to pass Hinds...
    - NEVER fall behind on your reading assignments
    - Don't skip class.... lots of tests questions come from lectures
    - Utilize study groups.... discussion helps you full gain understanding of the information
    - Do NCLEX questions.... this is the way they test.... the books are expensive, so get a group to meet at the book store and have a study session there
    - Listen to what they tell you.... and recognize that they know more than you
    - Accept your weaknesses and find methods to improve them.... use all types of resources
    - TAKE A BREAK!! Set aside one day where you dont even think about nursing school (trust me)

I still have a 3.5 average by following these things and I've never repeated a semester. Good Luck to everyone!!!!

P.S. sorry for the rant=) Oh, and to an earlier poster.... Hinds has almost a 100% pass rate on the state boards... the article reflected the HESI which is an exit exam from Hinds RN program...... Just like the facts to be correct

WanaBaNurse.... Thankyou for the encouraging words and tips on how to pass. I (we) really needed that. I stopped listening to that crap because im excited about starting school and I refuse to let them kill my joy. I think its all in what you make it. If you go in with that ole laud they gone try and flunk me or im going to fail attitude. Thats probably whats going to happen. Once again thankyou!!!!

If you guys ever get to the point you need tutoring before exams (LPN program), let me know. Normally, I will only do this on Mondays and Tuesdays...since I work full time while enrolled (with 2 kids).

Most of your exams in the first semester will be on Wednesdays anyway. Word of Advice: "Read your material BEFORE the lecture." You will soon figure out (on the Vicksburg campus) that a certain lecture is a complete waste of time...as you will only be flipping through powerpoints and reading from the book like 2nd graders.

Do not wait until the middle of the semester to aim for high grades. Trust me, there were several that did not make it to the Spring semester because they only needed a point or 2.
