Specialties MICU

I am a new nurse at my facility, about two years on a Med/Surg floor. Just found out I will be moving to SICU in about a couple of weeks. I am a little nervous, no, very nervous. Any tips or suggestions would be very appreciated. By the way, in the interview, they ask me if I was part of any professional organization? I draw a blank and the only name I could of come up with was " I am a member of ALLNURSES.COM.

Brian will appreciate this....:lol2:. "By the way, in the interview, they ask me if I was part of any professional organization? I draw a blank and the only name I could of come up with was " I am a member of ALLNURSES.COM"

You are about to embark on an amazing journey. There will be an enormous amount of information and it will make you feel like a new grad all over again. Some people aren't generous in sharing their knowledge and guard it closely........avoid these people ........if they can't share it they don't have it.

There will be many challenges and new information/situations that you will have to learn, but remember everyone was new at this one time too. Focus, don't become overwhelmed, you will learn this too.

What you will have to learn depends on the types of surgery done at the facility and how many ICU's they have. We are always here to help and you can PM me if you have any questions you may have as well.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of critical care. Good Luck!

This is a great site for ICU facts.

Oh man, you are living my dream! Best of luck in SICU - people (especially family) always remeber how they/loved ones were treated while in ICU - keep up the great tradition of excellent care.

Congrats!! No advice at this moment (it's late and I'm tired..), but good luck in your new job! :)

Congrats! Best advice I can give you is to NEVER let anyone intimidate you, and NEVER be ashamed to say 'I don't know' or ask for help. Don't let pride get in the way of learning, yours or your fellow nurses. Absorb it all and ask a ton of questuions, and you will go far!
