Wayne state University or Oakland University Nursing School?!

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi I am a pre-nursing nursing student and I applied to both of these Nursing schools. I haven't gotten my acceptance (or reject) letter In the mail yet .. I find out sometime this week! But I was wondering what do you guys think has a better nursing school? Any personal experience? Websites known for me to look up, etc.

Let me know !! :)

Yep, i'm going into my final year this fall.

How do you like it? Was your first semester as hard as everyone says? And are you working while in nursing school?

I didn't think the first semester was necessarily hard, it just keeps you extremely busy! Once you settle into the semester expect 1-2 tests a week (most weeks). It's really all about priority setting and time management. If you are a strong science student it shouldn't be too difficult. If I had to put it to words I would say that your first year in nursing school is only difficult because of the huge amount of information you have to learn, the second year is difficult because you have to take all that information and synthesize and apply it to your nursing practice.

Also, I didn't work my first and most of my second, now i'm working as a nurse tech.

Okay thank you and congrats on your final year of Nursing School! :)

I went to WSU as CD2 student. Just graduated in May and just passed my NCLEX. I have a friend at OU nursing. I had a 3.7 GPA and did exactly take all my prereqs at Wayne, but I did take some courses there. During my rotation at DMC, one facility member (a manager of the unit), said that when it comes to hiring new grads for positions she first picks out all the WSU grads and chooses from them first. I'm sure this is not true for all DMC units, but this particular manager likes to hire WSU grads. WSU gives a good education. They also changed the rules about HESI. Some nursing schools just require you to take HESI in order to graduate and WSU used to make it mandatory that you must hit 950+ to graduate. This means that now you must still pass HESI with 950, but if you fail you won't be kicked out. If I had known about the HESI and getting kicked out part, I would have chosen a different school. But since they won't kick you out for failing that course, I say WSU is a great program to go to.

At Wayne State we went to all Metro Detroit Area Hospitals. Including Pontiac, Livonia, Royal Oak and Down River in addition to Detroit Hospitals.

I hate oakland:(

I'm so sorry you hate oakland! Are you in the nursing program? I'm a senior and I admit there are things I haven't like but I've had a great experience and been given so many opportunities. If anyone is looking at Oakland I really do love it and would happily tell you about the program! SAMCRNA if your in the program you should talk with dean circle or snaou we are always looking to help students!

Can I ask you WSU students a question?

Is overall gpa taken into account or is it just pre-req gpa? I have an excellent gpa in my prerequisite courses, but have a lower overall go than I would like bc of a family issue and having to leave classes when I was a student in Texas.

Both GPAs were taken into account when I applied. They weighed the pre-req GPA more than the overall. My overall was also lowish, but my pre-req was very high. Good luck!! PM me if you have any questions :)

I just seen an advisor last week. They look at your overall gpa. The prerequisites are what they focus on. Good Luck!!
