University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I haven't heard a thing. Mind you, I am the only one I know who is applying to UM's ABSN program. Either they haven't released acceptances yet or this is one unlucky group of people commenting on this thread. Hopefully we'll all get good news soon.

Still nothing....no word....I'm not keeping all my eggs in U of M's basket though....I have also applied to OU, so I'm double waiting!

My husband spoke to one of his co-workers who's wife is on the faculty in the SON and found out that the delay is likely due to their still trying to get the new program approved. I guess it has been going up in front of different committees for some time and is still not 100% set in stone. I suppose it makes sense that they want to get all of that settled before they get a class committed to it. Thought you guys might like to know.

kfj6703: Thanks for the update!!

Yes, thank you for the update. While the waiting is hard, that does make sense. I definitely wouldn't want to commit to a program before knowing for sure how long it would it be...

I hope we all get some good news soon!

Hi! This is my first time posting; I check all the time to see if anyone has heard anything, though. I just received an email letting me know I was accepted into the program. I wanted to post because I know we are all dying to hear any information. I hope all of you heard too, or are hearing soon! I checked on Wolverine Access and you can see on your profile under "Application Status" next to "View Credentials" a link showed up that says "View Decision." Again, best of luck!

Congrats to you and I'm sure we all appreciate you letting us know there has been some movement with notices going out. This prompted me to check, but still no word either way.

I have actually pretty much decided upon an accelerated program in Madison, WI that I was accepted too. :) But still curious about what my fate eventually is for Michigan.

Good luck to all :)

Congrats, jld611! I'll be joining you!

Good job both of you! Still waiting....wow. How exciting!

Hi htbaw03 or jld611,

In your acceptance letter, was there any information regarding whether the 16 month program will be in place this fall? Any other info/stats you can provide?

Looking for any additional info I can get as I continue to play the waiting game.

Thanks

The first thing I received was an email stating that I’d been accepted. Like jld611 mentioned, the decision was also posted on WolverineAccess. After the email, I got a larger acceptance envelope in the mail, which included a folder and a letter of acceptance, but the folder was empty. Neither the letter nor the email mentioned anything about the 16 month vs. the 12 month program (or any other details on orientations, start dates, cost, etc. for that matter).

We did have a May 1st deadline for committing to the program and sending a $200.00 deposit to hold our place in the program.

I know someone who is currently in the program and said that they haven’t heard any confirmation one way or the either, but that there is a lot of talk about everything changing next year.

If I hear any updates or get more information, I’ll be sure to let you all know.

Could you gals/guys give me some insight as to how competitive this program is? It looks like a lot of you transferred from other schools. I am studying Molecular Biology at UM right now and am hoping to start this nursing program right after I graduate.

My GPA is poor, I have 2 years left to raise it, but it's only a 3.1 right now. Will coming from UM give me any sort of advantage?
