University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

I am not sure either but I'm on the waitlist at U of M as well. I heard some good news today though! I was on the waitlist at MSU and they called me and offered me a spot! So it is still possible don't loose hope I had and look what happened!

I am happy for you!! I applied to MSU and i didn't get in, because I didn't realize they were going to use my 2 old science classes from 12 years ago to calculate my science gpa so that brought me down. It wasn't on the pre-requisite list, so I just assumed I didn't need to retake basic bio or basic chem again.

I have two friends who were rejected!

Oh for waitlist ranking....according to the website, it says that waitlist people are not ranked and that they review the applicants as a pool if any spots open up. I'll try not to lose hope, it's just been so hard, I've been on this road awhile. And it was my second time applying to the program. At this point, I just want to start!

I agree it is frustrating! I hope some day I get into a program, they are so competitive. I know I still have other options, but I was hoping to get in somewhere for fall, so I will see what hapens.

Is it hard to get accepted into the program based on GPA?

The guy at MSU told me the cut off GPA for fall of 2009 was between 3.5 to a 3.6 undergraduate GPA. Now EMU only ranks students on the 8 pre-requisite classes and they don't look at undergraduate GPA. I think every school is just different.

MelBell2005,

The average for MSU may have been between a 3.5 to a 3.6 undergrad GPA, but it was not the cut off for everyone. I was accepted at MSU with a 3.4 undergrad GPA. So everyone should apply no matter the GPA just in case. If you talked to the guy I think you did I have had a lot of trouble with him telling me the right information.

Good luck

Do not stress too much! I got in with a 3.3 to MSU. It's not all about the grades. But if you don't have the grades I would say experience, good letters of recommendation, and a good personal statement really help to! It may have helped that I received my bachelors in a medical field but I don't know how much that plays in. You all can do it!

I don't know. I was just saying what the guy told me. Maybe he was just giving me general information. No big deal! My grades are good and there are still other schools to apply too. My BA gpa isn't the best, but science and pre-requisite GPA are good, so I may have a better chance in getting in somewhere that doesn't take overall GPA into consideration, like OU, OCC, EMU, and LCC.

I have struggled because of my undergrad gpa....not so good :( However, I think I'm starting to become a competitive applicant because of many years of great grades. I have set the curve in every nursing class I have taken and have maintained a 4.0 for the last 2 years. Event though I didn't get into U of M, they must have taken that into consideration since I made it on the wait list. I think improvement is really important. Many of us are probably in a different place in our lives than when we first started college. When I was 18 I didn't know what I was doing. I'm hoping that the rest of the schools I apply to look at the improvements I've made and experience I have gained in this journey.

I agree with you wannabeanurse84!!!
