Hello fellow nurses out there. I am newly licensed unemployed nurse in Michigan. I have been searching for a job for the past 7 months and have not received one callback. Any suggestions on how to find employment?

In what general part of Michigan do you live? My daughter-in-law graduated and passed boards back in May and was able to find a full-time day shift job at a LTC/sub-acute rehab facility in the Metro Detroit area. It isn't her dream job but it's better than nothing and she is gaining a ton of good experience. She did have a couple of years of experience as an STNA under her belt when she graduated, though.

To LadyFree28. I went to my school's job placement's office and had my resume' tweeked a lil bit. I suppose it is safe to say that it is presentable. Im not sure what else to do. I have applied at hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and even looked at the public health sector without any callbacks. It is so frustrating!

Hello Westiluv thanks you for replying to my post. I have been applying in the Metro Detroit Area but I have no had any luck so far. I do not possess any experience as a nursing assistant but I have the capability to learn. Most of the employers want you to have experience. It is a catch-22 like trying to obtain credit. How can I gain experience if no one is willing to give us new nurses a chance to learn anything.

Have you tried volunteering? If it's only one or two days a week...it will get your face known and you can start networking. You will have to go through all the TB testing and orientation, but it will get your foot in the door.

It took me a few months. Just keep applying everywhere. Try an agency for now.

Are you still looking for a job Sweetypie? Are you close to Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area? Try the CIENA facilities especially the one in Ann Arbor. They are always hiring RNs and new grads. Good luck
