New grad RN jobs in Michigan

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hello everyone, I'm a new grad RN and looking for a job in Michigan. I graduated in August and have been trying to find a job but no luck yet! I have applied for so many positions at different hospitals but so far had just two interviews, St john Macomb (in Jan) and henry ford Macomb (Feb). I have been trying to call HR as they told me to follow up within a week or 2 but didn't get any replies yet. I'm losing my hope and don't know what to do. Please Help!

I sent out over 300 resumes before I got my first interview. I had a total of 3 interviews in 6 months before I landed my first job. I hear six months to land a job as a new grad is fairly typical. Hang in there, it will happen.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, and information on finding jobs! I have applied for 190 jobs, so far, so I have just really started. It just stinks because in school I was always so busy, and learning new things, which I loved!! Now, I am at a stand still. It'll eventually happen, I just need to be patient :)

have you all had any luck with landing a position yet? I am also a new grad.

So do you have any tips for finding a position as a newer RN? I have some LPN experience, and some RN corrections experience. I am getting so frustrated that I have not found a position yet.

Sorry, I have no tips. I think for me, it was the luck of the draw. Where I work, I was told that for every RN job there are at least 200 applicants. Just keep putting out those resumes. You will hear from somebody eventually.

I ended up getting 3 interviews, one with the VA, another with Henry Ford, and the last one at the DMC. I guess you are right, the only thing I can do is just continue to put as many applications in as possible.

In May 2013, I graduated from Macomb Community College, and I took my NCLEX in the beginning of June. I passed my NCLEX, and I am licensed now in The State of Michigan. I am starting Oakland University in August for my RN-to-BSN completion, which I should graduate at the end of 2014. It's the first week of July, and I've had only one interview, but I didn't get the position. I have seriously applied for jobs starting my starting last semester of Nursing School, which was in March. I was not one of those who have previous experience by being a nursing assistant, and I think that's the reason for having no luck. I have done everything you can think of by networking with nurse managers that I know, writing thank you cards to each HR person that I speak with, and basically hand delivering my resume to them, but no interviews yet :( Most of the positions that I see available say minimum of 1 year experience required for the position. If you are a new grad, and have no experience as an RN, how are you supposed to get any positions if they require experience? So overwhelmed!!!!!! I hope that you were able to finally find a job, so there is hope for the rest of us out there looking!

did you ever have any luck finding a position yet?

I saw several new grad positions on UofM's career page while helping a friend job search last week, check there frequently and apply for everything, even if it is the same unit and shift. Because of the union you can't be considered for any position other than the ones you apply for.

I found a full time position at a hospital in November. It took me a few months, but I am so thankful.
