Was anyone else slightly overwhelmed by the most recent info they received from the Nursing Program? We won't get to pick up our syllabus until just two weeks before we start class, and yet the paperwork even says we will have to read a certain number of chapters prior to the first day of each class, as specified in the syllabus. :uhoh3:

Why can't we just pick up the syllabus now, so we can get a jump on it? I am going away for a week just two days after I'll be getting the syllabus (illtimed I know, but it's an all expenses paid vacation...can't pass it up considering what the next two years are going to be like!), and I'll be back only four days before my first class. I'll be taking my books along with me...

BTW, for anyone who hasn't yet seen the "Sentimental Women..." video at the Learning Center, it's about 60min long. It's actually pretty interesting, sort of a documentary, but dated (done in 1989)...they should make a more updated version.;)

I don't know of any courses at Macomb where you can view the syllabus before the start of class.

We can't pick it up yet because it is still being printed is what I was told. I was down there Monday to start picking up my books and I went into the office to ask about it. I'm planning on going back down next week to hopefully get the rest of my books and ask again about it. Terry is on vacation and the lady filling in for her couldn't give a date as when it would be ready.

i cant wait to pick it up so i can see what to expect for the first 8 weeks...i also watched the sentimental women video...it is outdated....i found it interesting to see what struggles the nursing profession has been through:uhoh3:

I'm in the January group and I was wondering, when are we supposed to receive the list the august class did? I'd like to buy my scrubs and lab coat now instead of wait and feel rushed.

Also, August group, how's it going? :)

Try giving Teri a call at the Nursing Department. They did sent the list in plenty on time to order our uniforms. Beware though, at least for some of us the uniforms ran on the tight side...I ordered two different sizes to compare and ended up needing the larger of the two. I then just exchanged the other pair for the correct size (I wanted two sets anyway). I only kept one lab coat (didn't see a need for two) and it was the smaller of the two.

I've only had the lab class so far (tomorrow is the 1st day of 1510/1520) but so far, so good. What's scary is the nuber of chapters we have to read for 1510/1520 after the first session, since we won't have class on Labor Day...something like 14 chapters or more!:uhoh3: Not including the readings for 1530 or any assignments of course! Our first quiz in 1530 will be on week 2...

Okay... gotta get back to the books!!!;)

14 eh? yikes! :) Yes, I suppose i'm trying to mentally psych myself up for the workload.

How much bigger would you say you went with uniforms? I mean if you had your measurements, how much higher did you take them to not end up with spandex? :D

Thanks for the reply!

Oh and while i'm at it!

Be sure to let the rest of us know how 1510/20 go! I'm curious to see the workload overall between the 3.

I saw the fundamentals book in the bookstore, and wow, that thing could sink to the bottom of the Dead Sea no problems :)

I ended up getting one size bigger than they suggested on the scrubs, but the size they suggested for the lab coat was fine. There's a "fitting tool", or something like that, on the site where you fill in your measurements and it will tell you which size to get...unless you're in perfect shape (which I am NOT!), going up a size might be a good idea. The scrubs have no give what-so-ever, and the material is somewhat stiff. :o
