Current Nursing Students- Which Stethoscope is Best?

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi Everyone,

I have been looking over past posts to find out which stethoscope is best. I came across some that stated the Littmann Cardiology III is awesome. They also reccommended that it be ordered from allheart.com. Anyhow, I checked several websites and decided to order this stethoscope from allheart because it was the most reasonable. The price is $138.99. I also found a promo code for $10 off my order. It is NSNATN9.

It comes in several different colors. If you are a student than they also send you a free stethoscope accessory kit that includes a CD with different heart sounds.:redbeathe

So who uses what? Do you think that I made a good purchase?

I'd say you got a great deal. Me personally, I used to use the Littman Classic II SE, since I also spend time as a road medic and cardio scopes just hear too much when you're bumping down the road in the back of a 'bolance. But indoors, yeah, a cardio scope is awesome.

UMichSCN07- That's a good point. It really depends if you'll be using it on the road or not. Thanks!:)

That's the 'scope that I bought for nursing school and continue to use in practice. They're pricey but worth it IMO.

Given that I have some hearing loss, I'm considering an amplified 'scope at some point.

I've been looking at the Littman scopes, but can't really figure out what the difference (besides $$$$) between a "master" model, or just the regular model is. For instance, the Cardiology III or the Master Cardiology III? Anyone?

Here is a comparison chart for the littmann stethoscopes. Hope this helps!

This is the one that I use in the ER and it works just fine for me. I'm not a fan of allheart, though. I've had some bad experiences with them, but maybe yours will be different.

GM2RN,

Would you be able to reccommend a better company to deal with? This is my 1st purchase thru allheart. So far, no probs, but i'm still waiting for my stethoscope to be shipped. thanks

I ordered mine from this company: http://www.reddingmedical.com/merchant.cfm?id=13&step=2&parent=3

This is the only time I have dealt with this company, but I had no problems and my product shipped quickly. Prices are comparable to allheart. If you have already ordered from allheart, I would wait and see what happens. My issues with them had to do with not getting what I ordered or extremely long shipping times because they would never tell me if stuff was out of stock or backordered. If your item seems to be taking too long, then contact them to find out why. If they tell you it is currently out of stock or backordered, you should be able to cancel your order without penaly if it will take too long to get it.

The local scrub-supply shop had all of the Littman lineup in stock, and you could try them out - Personally, I couldn't tell the difference between the models for bp's, they were all great, and a huge step above the basic $3.00 chinese scopes.

I bought the lightweight II se for around $50..

rzyzzy,

What local scrub shop did you go to? It would be helpful for me to go in person and take a peek at what's available before purchasing. Thanks.

rzyzzy - did you just make it into MCC for this fall too?
