Is anyone attending Macomb Community College?

U.S.A. Michigan

I am trying to decide if I should attend Baker in Clinton Twp. or Macomb C.C.

I hear it takes about 2-3 years to get into the rn program at Macomb. Baker sounds like your chances are a little better as long as you keep your GPA above 3.8 and score well on the test after your pre reqs are done (not sure of the name). If you go to Macomb, what is your experience? Thanks!

I would not suggest Baker. You are better off with Macomb for the following reasons: Baker is a private school and very expensive; their credits are not transferable like macombs. Also, they have a points system they use for prioritizing, if you go there and apply and don't get in they may suggest extra classes $$$. I have a friend who went there for radiology and she kept getting passed up for her program and the school kept suggesting extra classed and retaking classes that she had a b in to raise it to a's. To make a long story short she was trapped because many community colleges would not accept baker creits because their semesters are 10 weeks and many cc's are 15 weeks. Macomb has no wait list because they go by your gpa for past 12 credits that are transferable to them and also how well you do on the HESI exam which is like the NET exam. They rank you by 50% gpa of recent 12cr and 50% of HESI score. Also, many preqs are not required to be completed before entry into program except for A/P.:)

I meet with an academic advisor at Macomb yesterday and I will start there in January. I am going to work real hard and hopefully get in. I just have to decide what classes I want to take the fall semester of '06 that will count toward my GPA for the program. Thanks.

Hello all,

I am thinking about transfering from Davenport to Macomb cc due to cost. I really like the class size, instructors and the Davenport campus in general, but I still have pre-reqs to take and I do not want to drown in student loans at this level in my education. I want to earn a BSN.

Would any other Macomb cc students present or pass please share their experiences. Thank you.

Ditto. I've been at MCC since Winter of '05 and am starting the RN program in October. I HIGHLY recommend Macomb over many schools in the area. I attended OU after graduating HS 10 years ago and have found that my experience at MCC so far has been much more positive. Smaller classes, caring/helpfull instructors etc... As for the pre-req's A/P, Comp I&II, Intro to Psych, Nutrition, comparative religion (or ethics, not sure if it has to be completed before start of program) and micro (doesn't have to be completed before start of program but they do recommend it). Plus their success rate is quite high.. 96% of graduates go on and pass the NCLEX first try..(we were informed of this stat at orientation) and everyone I've talked to has not said one bad thing about MCC's program, so how could you lose? Good luck to you in your decision!

Hi MiRnSoon,

Thanks for the information. I'm going to transfer to Macomb for Winter 07. I may try to see if I can get in for Fall 06. I am only 5 mins. from the campus, maybe I can stop by tomorrow.

If I were you I'd shoot for Fall.. You are still working on pre-reqs right? The only two you may have trouble getting into would be A/P and micro..those two tend to fill up fast, and if you are planning on applying for Fall '07 you'll have until probably Feb '07 to get all of your info together (transcripts etc..) BUT you'll have to register before November to take the HESI. There are test dates into January but registration ends much earlier^. A lot of people got burned by that last year thinking that they had until February and the HESI is mandatory. Just some more FYI. Good luck !

Hi MiRnSoon,

I went to mcc central campus today. It is huge compared to Davenport Warren campus. I will register for classes Saturday morning. It will cost $836.00 for 12 credit hours. This includes the $20.00 reg. fee. but not the course fees. Which is much cheaper than DU one 3 credit hour course is a little over $1,000.00. Thanks for your help.

I took pre-req's at OCC and MCC for the nursing program. I think MCC had 2400 students trying for 120 seats. At that time you had to have a 4.0 and score high on that entrance exam. I did like MCC and the instructors but I transfered to a program I could start in. Take your pre-req's there to keep cost down and apply to other schools. Have a plan B.

Any students from MCC RN program know Kieth? Let him know Mark starts the RN program in Jan 07. I switched schools but I'm only 4 months behind ya. Sad I took pre-req's with them and lost touch.

what are the required classes to apply for mcc adn program

Composition 1, Intro to Psych, A&P, Nutrition,Intro to Ethics or Comparative Religion and Microbiology (not a true pre-req but has to be completed before 2nd semester of nursing classes). The school looks at your last 12 credits + the score of the HESI exam. Good luck!

Hi MiRnSoon,

Did you complete all of your pre reqs before taking the HESI?
