white scrub tops and males

Nurses Men

So my current employer's uniform policy is navy, brown, or gray scrub tops and bottom or white scrub top with one of the other color pants. they are now requiring all nurses to wear white scrub tops and black or royal blue bottoms. Does anyone this that this is dumb looking on guys. I wear navy, that what all guys wear for the most part. but the hospital just got a new logo and wants the nurses to be distinguishable from other staff members. I pretty sure the patients know that there nurse isnt the person with the linen cart or cleaning cart and Drs ussually just ask people at the desk who has Mr. or Mrs. so and so. I just think that white tops look so dumb. I mean Im embarressed to get off and go out in public in white tops. it seems to me that they are not taking male nurses into consideration with this choice. Thoughts?

Isn't it like, oooooo, TOTALLY like gay to like refer to something as GAY, when it's not gay and like you are Sokol not gay...... Doesn't that like mean you're TOTALLY GAY, dude, secretly.

White shirts do not make people look gay, of either gender.

But the float nurse I saw with white pants on that were so tight, you could tell his religion and that he was a natural red head - now, that might qualify. Though my gay boyfriend (every woman, married or single should have one) said , "too tacky for words". Thus, not gay.

Gay looking? No. I don't think you chose the right profession if you're worried about others questioning your sexual preference.

I love white button down shirt especially in the summer. I am gay so I guess that makes sense. Which is weird b.c I rarely see any gay men wearing pink, I always see straight guys wearing pink..now that's soo gay.

I don't want to burst your bubble...but there is a stereotype/assumption that many of the male nurses are gay..so I think wearing white is the least of your worries., its right up there with being a hairstylist and a flight attendant.

They are just trying to keep us down.

Florence Nightengale liked nurses in white.

She also didn't like men in nursing.

She beleived only woman should be nurses.

yes this was routed in that in her time it was one of few jobs woman could have.

Just when I think of white I think of oppression.

I will not be oppressed, I will rise and overthrow the machine.

But I do love NAVY. I look so good in it. It is so slimming and really makes my eyes pop.

A color does not make you look "gay". Nothing makes you "look" a certain way...thats like sayin wearing plaid makes a girl look butch...

It's all stereotypes...silly silly stereotypes.

You shouldn't be wearing your dirty scrubs to the gay bar after work, anyway.

I think you might need to grow up a little bit. Or a lot.

I'm not even going to address the "gay looking" comment. The other responding to this thread have already done that.

My hospital requires RNs to wear the ugliest color in the world: Caribbean Blue. I bought matching scrub tops and pants and quickly ditched the Caribbean Blue tops and reverted back to the white Landau scrub tops we HAD to wear in nursing school. I swore to the gods that I would never wear white scrubs in my life. Ever.

I switched back because the Landau white scrub tops come with front pockets on each side, in addition to the chest pocket. Although my Carribbean blue pants have cargo pockets, the material is flimsy and don't adequately contain all the stuff I carry with my on my shift - scissors, pulse ox machine, extra flushes, pen light, etc... Landau doesn't make the Caribbean Blue men's tops with front pockets, so back to the whites I went. FYI, I'm gay but trust me...the scrubs tops have nothing to do with that, lol.

I had to wear all white scrubs with white shoes, socks and undershirt in school. At first I hated it but after a while you don't mind so much. Will I continue to wear all white no that I am working as an RN, no way. Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope it works out.

You're worried that a white top makes you look homosexual? Or are you using gay to mean stupid or dumb? Either way, you seem to have bigger problems to worry about.

Who cares if he used the word gay. Some you sound as if he called your mother a wretched old skank. We all know the term gay takes on various meanings. All this politically correct garbage is you brain being washed from nursing school.

All white or white tops does look gay. That is why it is not worn anymore by the different professions you people have mentioned. I am sure you will find your occasional old school worker who likes the white look, but it has been replaced for the most part. Times have changed and he shouldn't feel great wearing a white top.

Some of us gay people do. It suggests an underlying homophobia, and is simply unpleasant.
