Sick and I start work tomorrow

Hope you feel better. I was ill during training one time and that's the worst.

    First CNA job

Some people want to stay in bed late. I always give them a choice, too. I have had coworkers go behind me and force a person to get up, but at least I let them have a choice. I mean, there are some people who will just say no to everything you ask th...

Cnas getting hired at grade schools

This is very interesting. I'm not sure what they might do for the school but if you find out from your FB friends, I'd love to know.

Funny things your patients have said

"WOW! You're really good at pulling down pants!" is my favorite.

    Is this abuse?

This needs to be reported, as others have said. If you were uncomfortable during the exchange, imagine how the resident felt.

    Sometimes I wear my watch, sometimes I don't. :)

Is becoming a CNA (and getting hired) hard?

CNA jobs are pretty readily available in most areas of the country. Your friend would have to take the CNA class and pass the state exam (or challenge it) after a round of clinicals, so if they're in emergency need of a new job, this wouldn't be the ...

Thinking about becoming a CNA but...

    1. I took my CNA course at a community college in 2011. I'm not familiar with other avenues of obtaining certification. 2. Yes. 3. CNAs do not take blood in my state and I don't think one class would qualify you to do so, but it may be different in...

I have a random CNA Question

As others have said, yes, you will have to do a variety of cares and other type of work (like transfers) in front of family members or other visitors. I've done it many times. I simply let the resident and family member(s) know what I am about to do ...

    Average number of patients

25 seems about right. My first job, I had about 30 to myself and after that, it was right around 20 at smaller facilities. The only time I had a manageable load was when I had one person to take care of in homecare. Good luck at your new job!

I let a resident fall and feel terrible!

I was a little worried when I saw in your title that you "let" a resident fall. I thought this was going to be a post about willfully and carelessly letting a resident drop to the floor. You did no such thing. It sounds like you did the right thing i...

    Some silly questions and concerns

You'll be fine, sweetheart. Wear professional clothing on your fire safety and computer orientation training days unless told otherwise. In fact, you can ask your employer. Call them and ask if you need to wear scrubs those two days. If they say no, ...

Newbie CNA shocked "care" given by CNA co-workers!

The best thing you can do is advocate for those who can't speak for themselves. I just had to report a coworker for neglect and although it was a clear-cut case, I still felt guilty for being a "snitch." But then I remembered my residents and how the...

    Long shift then class?

I do something similar and it's running me to the ground. It isn't just class, it's homework and studying. I don't have any personal time or study time. I barely get things done for my classes. Don't stretch yourself too thin.

    The hours a CNA works

My facility also has short shifts from 7-11am and 4-8pm in addition to the standard first, second, and NOC. You might be able to find a facility or home care agency that can work around your schedule for school.
