I had a charge who would discharge patients without telling the nurse and the patient would still be in the room. It's to keep the discharge times If management did this, I would notify not only the union, but CMS as well.
EMTs and Paramedics told me this: Most of the time, you will be a glorified taxi driver for transport. HOWEVER, those crazy moments you see tend to make up for the crap transport. I have the utmost respect for our first responders.

One of my facilities has a .phrase in Epic for narcotic administration that says patient must agree to have a ride home, etc. I've adopted this at my other facility to protect me as many patients say they have rides, but in fact, do not.
