palpation is a better indicator than visualization...keep trying...you don't learn nearly as much on a successful start that you do on a line you blow...learn from each mistake, evolve your technique

This situation is an unfortunate reality, as ER nurses we'll always see this type of pt. Hopefully you've got a good doc on shift who is going to set the pt straight and not order any narcotics.

I've always used Lido, the compassionate thing to do. I work with a retired Special Forces RN, he states if his crew needed Rocephin d/t a wild night out he'd use sterile water and let 'em know about it.
As stated above, let it roll off your back. Did she have you running for boxed lunches and soda as well...and another warm blanket, and reposition my bed?
