    Hi aRNie10,

Thank you for your reply! I haven't been able to get to this site for a while because of school I really appreciate your feedback. I think every program has its strength and weaknesses, and it was good to read about some of your experiences. Did you enjoy your program at LLU? Was it difficult to find a job after you completed your program? Thanks for any additional info!

thanks also about the CSU applicant info, 400-450 was what i remembered hearing from my group orientation

Congrats on your soon to be new one hope everything is going well for you - i would recommend massages if you can and that's your thing. My little one had to go to hospital as an infant - part of what motivated me to go into nursing, we had great nurses that really took care of us.

I see that you have had experience at prison setting. How did you find that? Thanks again for your responses there are so many areas of nursing that I was not aware of

Thanks NickiLaughs for all the info ... I have been trying to get as realistic a picture as possible. Everyone is hoping for the economy to improve, but you never know, so am just trying to prepare myself as best as possible with the resources I have. I should hear from CSUSB by Aug (I think), and if it's a denial, will take pre-reqs for LLU, and apply for both for winter. When I went to CSU to drop off docs for my app, one of the applicants had just gotten out of one of their group orientations. She said that they told them that they received over 1400 applications for Fall, but would only have 44 spots open. Crazy isn't it?

I hope that you do really well in the program - know what it is like to work and go to school - NOT easy - and if you have a family to take care of also, extra kudos... [i LOVE these face things!] ... and keeping fingers crossed for you that things stay good for you at your hospital. Do you find that other nurses are helpful to you? I have read about some pretty tough times in the first year nurse forum.

NickiLaughs - thanks for such a detailed response it really helps to know what the nurses from LLU feel about their student loans, and how much you are paying - costs are a huge concern of course!

Since you are already RN, do you think that your classes are helping you? I know that economy is bad and I have read how some grads from Dec 08, and others from 2009 are unable to find jobs. Do you think new CSUSB grads are having this problem?

Thank you Progressive Thinking! It's been hard to get an "objective" answer because the people I've talked to are from either one or the other campus... Thanks for the input

    Quote from Brighten
^ your not friends with someone no more because they have cheated before? u kidding me
"The act is just an indication of her overall mindset and personality. I am no longer friends with her because of her other actions"

It was one of many things that she did. She used people, ... she bought Gap, bought L.A.M.B. purse and wallet that was on clearance for "only" $400 and something, flaked out on helping me out cause she had to go find out why her welfare had been suspended (food stamps, health ins, cash assistance) then after that was straightened out asked if i could watch her kids cause she wanted to buy tickets to a concert for her and her boyfriend because the b/f had never been to one ...

I don't want to be around all that. My parents are in their 60's, unemployed, diabetic with no health ins, sending out resumes, attending workshops, going into more debt to take classes to update their skills... they are still trying to support themselves - i have offered multiple times for them to come live with us so they don't have to also worry about paying their mortgage ... i just keep praying for all of us to make it through this economy

I am lucky that I have a great a physio teacher. She announced on the very first day that she has zero tolerance for cheating, and if she catches you she will do everything she can to get you kicked out of the school. Her rationale? Who wants a person that is willing to cheat, or essentially lie, in a position of responsibility, power, and with access to narcotic drugs?

I know of a person that has admitted to cheating on her exams and is now on a waiting list to get into a nursing program. The act is just an indication of her overall mindset and personality. I am no longer friends with her because of her other actions. Cheating at the college level is "small potatoes" (to quote my physio professor). In the real world, one person with that mindset can cause a lot of harm to a lot of people.

I'm not seeking out cheaters or "policing" my classmates...but yes, I have called a person on it in real life, and let the teacher know. Because I am dedicating time, money and energy into my studies - and Yes, I have to focus on me, and do the very best I can because I also need to make sure I do the best I can for my child, and because my husband is doing a lot so that I can be in nursing school.

And yes, I am willing to make a stand when I see something wrong, and not just ignore it - because I have done it before - in real life at the workplace - and along with other employees that have been willing to speak out, it has removed a highly abusive, incompetent manager that was later discovered to have been embezzling.

So I think you have to question what you are willing - or not willing - to do at the collegiate level. It is just a small reflection of what you will face in your professional life.

hi - do you have any idea what you would like to do in the nursing field? this can help you start targeting schools in ky. after you know of some schools that interest you, verify that your online courses will transfer. take as many gen ed classes that you can so you can focus on your sciences. if you have questions, contact the nursing dept counselor at the school you are interested in. have you looked up the nursing board for ky? i was able to find a lot of information from the ca rn board (since i live here).

read threads on this site about: first year nurse, employment, recent grad, anything that interests you...it will give you a better picture of what school and nursing can be like. also can give you an idea of what the job market could be like for your area. if you find any teachers that have experience with the nursing field, ask of they are available to talk to you about it. my physio prof has been a great resource. this has helped me to apply for another school that will be a better fit for me and what i would like to do. keep the good grades up!

my husband is former military, and i thank you for your service to our country - good luck in your future endeavors

walomom - i completely agree with you and would have done exactly the same thing you did. i learned the above quote from my high school history class - for those of you who do not know, it was his explanation of how the holocaust happened in nazi germany.

reporting academic dishonesty is not "tattling" or "snitching" - it is about taking responsibility for your own self. you witnessed an action that is not allowed, for very good reasons. whether you tell the student yourself, or your instructor, at least you are taking action to stop a cheater.
