  1. LPN's and unions...help me understand

I could not find anything clearcut when searching on if LPN's could form a union on their own. I'm right there with you on begging to differ. on my job at the hospital, i took a team of patients, with the same acuity as the RN's , same amount, and w...
  2. discharged a patient wearing telemetry

oh it happens... I sent a pt we were transferring from the hosp an hour away by ambulance , to a rehab facility , with telemetry on.. I just wanted to die. we called the facility, before the pt even got there, and they mailed it back a week later.
  3. Possible to transfer programs from state to state? MO-CT

it ends in december, however I am getting divorced and have 5 kids.. i will not be able to support them here by myself and my parents are willing to help if we go out there. ive got some emails out to some schools there so we shall see i guess
  4. I am an LPN who is enrolled and attending a local bridge program in MO. Family circumstances have come up that it would be more beneficial to move this summer to CT rather than waiting until Dec for graduation. I don't want to lose the semester I hav...
  5. LPNs in RN programs -- do you get bored?

I am glad it is not just me. Aside from some minor things I have yet to learn anything. And clinicals are a joke. I did get to IV push and hang blood.. but I already knew exactly how to do it from working in the hospital with co-workers who taught me...
  6. First job as LVN: Clinic or Hospital?

If you intend to continue on in your education, I would certainly consider the hospital job. Let the clinic know you will let them know very soon, but that you are of course still interviewing.
  7. I need to interview a LPN, RN, and Advance Practice Nurse

a)Describe # if years/type of educational experience I graduated from LPN school in June 2006, and began working right away at a hospital on a med-surg ortho unit. I also floated voluntarily for extra shifts to med-surg GI. After two years of working...
  8. Doctors getting angry??

there was a Dr at our hospital who lost his temper and called a nurse stupid and vented as well, and was ordered to go to anger management classes. Hmm or maybe it was the same one lol
  9. Has Magnet Increased Nurse Satisfaction Within the Facility?

I think it is another set of hoops to jump through, which means more time and resources exhausted and wasted away from patient care. This one is dangerous though, because unlike some e.g JCAHO.. this one is ripping jobs away from nurse's (LICENSED p...
  10. every LPN in my hosp was laid off today

I'm collecting my unemployment. I was already accepted into a bridge program, I never intended on staying at LPN, I only did it so I would have more clinical experience and could work while I worked on my RN. The only place I'd ever want to work is i...
  11. every LPN in my hosp was laid off today

They are calling the LPNs and asking them if they would like to come and work as Patient Care Specialists (PCS's) at the PCS rate of pay, so they have a job. Some of them have even accepted and gone back. I can't believe it. Apparently in MO if you ...
  12. every LPN in my hosp was laid off today

Just received word that the official count was over 100. I didn't realize we had that many, but I forgot about SNF and Rehab etc. Ouch. And they told staff in their staff meetings this morning that they will not rehire LPN's EVER because it is irresp...
  13. every LPN in my hosp was laid off today

I think there are about close to 50 LPN's and they are giving 6 weeks severance, meted out over the normal pay periods, so in 3 paychecks. The area we are in only offers LTC options for LPN's here as the other hospital has long refused to use LPN's, ...
  14. every LPN in my hosp was laid off today

i'm still just in shock. Some had been there for 30 plus years. Everyone was called into HR and told they were no longer needed and would not be working another shift. So much for my educational loan assistance.... So we were good enough to take team...
  15. Concerns with brand new nurses

we did a lot of practicing in LPN school on narrative charting based on scenario patients, and when I started working, I would read back on what my preceptor had charted for the day and discuss with her before I charted what I was going to say. Doing...
