  1. Student loan taking forever to pay off...

I graduated with 65k in student loans. I'm 3.5 years into my 10 year repayment. Thankfully, for the Canada Student Loan Program we can make additional payments ! I'm planning on doing OT to speed up the process. My monthly payments are high and I'd r...
  2. Job Interview - Ethical Dilemma Question

Thanks for your thoughts on this subject. I had my interview today and they didn't ask any questions about ethics! Yay for me!
  3. Job Interview - Ethical Dilemma Question

Thank you. Now that you've mentioned your story, I too have been in a similar situation, but with physical restraints that I felt were being used just for the convenience of the management.
  4. Job Interview - Ethical Dilemma Question

Thank you. I like your approach!
  5. Hello, I have an interview on Monday for a new position and I'm trying to get ready for the questions. One of the common questions I just can't seem to wrap my head around is the "Tell us about a time you had an ethical dilemma and how you dealt with...
  6. BC Nurses: please fill out BCNU survey!

Thank you for your comment. BC nurses should still make it a priority to fill out their surveys and mail them in the postage paid envelope before October 21! If we don't demand that our union leadership fight on our behalf we could very well end up w...
  7. BC Nurses: please fill out BCNU survey!

"Hey everybody! I just received a survey from BCNU regarding the next round of bargaining next year. I know many of us have been negatively affected by the poorly thought out changes to our health benefits, and I personally am not at all happy by the...
  8. Pronouncing patients death

Where I work in Canada, an RN can pronounce death provided comfort care orders have been signed by the doctor and death is expected. This, however, has no bearing on what you can do in the facility where you work in California. Your best course would...
  9. iv infusion therapy course

In BC, only RN's insert IV's and yes that is taught in the hospital. IV insertion is outside the scope of practice of LPNs and they can only hang plain NS, no KCL or meds. Perhaps it's different in Alberta.
  10. Are RN's going to be a thing of the past?

My unit has an LPN on per shift, but the acuity of the floor keeps rising so there might be fewer appropriate patients for them to care for.
  11. Being bullied by my clinical instructor

I had a horrible term 7 clinical instructor when I was at Langara. She was very persecutorial, and not supportive. Even in the classroom, her anecdotes were about how she hounded someone under her supervision until the other nurse quit her job. PM me...
  12. Opinion, WWYD?

Your co-worker has a really sweet deal there! She's got the power!
  13. I get an extra $100 a month with my BSN.
  14. nursing diagnoses

I agree with Esme12; Get a care plan book. Once I got one of those, doing my care plans became so much easier. The book I bought was Nursing Diagnosis Handbook by Ackley and Ladwig. It had all the NANDA classifications and plentiful interventions wit...
  15. CRNE February 2012

Some results were delivered today in BC. Got my certificate today. I passed. In Vancouver.
