  1. Male Nurses.

I became an RN 17 years ago. In the eyes of a physician, I think men generally start at a notch above females as far as respect and professional treatment. How you perform as a nurse after that "introduction" will further define the working relatio...
  2. If you worked while in school, what did you do?

I worked two jobs. I pumped gas and light auto maintenence at a Shell station and worked nursing home as aide wiping butts.
  3. Stool???

Roids is my guess too. Assuming no other symptoms. Drink plenty of water and up the fiber in your diet.
  4. How much do you make?

    1. RN 2. 17 years 3. Varies from one assignment to another (PICU, Med Surg,Clinic, Education, recruiting) 4. $93,000/year (Includes a variable -based on exchange rate-$200-$500/month cost of living allowance for living in Germany)
  5. "How soon can you start?"

Just put "negotiable" in that space.
  6. Military Nursing ????

I've been an Air Force nurse for over 14 years. Prior to that I nursed in the Detroit area for three years. I was in the fence between the Air Force and the Navy too. I chose Air Force because I didn't want to be stationed on a Navy ship for long p...
  7. Men in nursing school??? Experiences??

I particluarly enjoyed the part of nursing school where we gave each other bed baths. I married my first bed bath "victim".
  8. Two year degree RN vs. BSN-RN

Until the NCLEX dirrerentiates between BSN and Non-BSN RN's. Pay differences won't be significant. The time/cost associated with getting your BSN does not seem worth it. For those extra two years spent getting your BSN you could be earning RN pay...
  9. To Male Nurses!

I think the point of your hoispital's message should be to identify and address job stereotypes. I suggest taping a guided discussion with a group of 8th graders. Ask questions like "Do you think it's o.k. for men to be nurses?" I think you'll fi...
  10. Venous Urokinase for DVT on Med-Surg Floors

Ya know, urokinase is not specific. It works on all thrombi, not just the venous ones and not just the ones blocking vessels. In my opinion, your taking too great a risk administering this outside a stepdown/ICU setting.
  11. Another night in Hooterville....<sigh>

What a terrible experience. Nurses are partners with physicians not subordinates. We treat the patient's response to illness; physicians treat the illness. If that patient is not responding to the docs treatment, it's our job as nurses to point t...
  12. Here's how I respond to people who ask this question. This is an opportunity to exercise some of those theraputic communication skills. Be prepared to listen. Ask probing open ended questions such as "It sounds like it is important for you to be w...
