  1. Moving to Arizona

Thanks to all that have replied to my original post! I have had a telephone interview for Valley Lutheran, and I'm very pleased with what they have to offer. We will be leaving this weekend, and will arrive in Apache Junction soon! And hopefully be...
  2. Threat Alert!!!

Frankly, I'm a little concerned about events in North Korea.
  3. Moving to Arizona

I'm planning to relocate to Apache Junction, AZ in the spring. Does anyone have hospitals or clinics they can recommend. I don't want to commute to Phoenix, so I'm looking for something closer-like in Mesa or Chandler, etc. I'm a med-surg nurse with ...
  4. Major venting about some CNA's

40 units could be w/in the norm if it was Lantus. And also the intended patient was large..even 70/30 doses can be that high in a large and/or insulin resistant person. (just my 2 cents)
  5. Major venting about some CNA's

Mario..that's tissue fluid coming out. Try sticking another place on the finger, or a different finger. If you still get tissue fluid, let the nurse know and you can get a venous glucose to send down..the reading would not be accurate from just tissu...
  6. take this job and shove it

I like the people I work with. We have a strong team spirit, and many of us have worked the same hospital for many years. I love the constant learning. There is so much to discover about human nature, science, life and death. My busy medsurg floor is...
  7. Children w/ Bipolar

There is a difference between cooped-up highly intelligent kids, working off energy and the kid who starts having delusions w/occasional hallucinations. There are actual mental illnesses people!! You can't go around saying that if only parents would ...
  8. Children w/ Bipolar

Rhon, thanks..it means alot to recieve support. In cases like this the parent's guilty feelings and shame can be enormous. When we see normal kids and their families, we can feel jealous and sad. The loss is like a death, in that you have to come to ...
  9. Children w/ Bipolar

My now 17yr old daughter was diagnosed bipolar at age 12. She later was rediagnosed as Schizoaffective. We have been through years of hell. She has been uncontrollable and violent through most of these years..w/ups and downs..she would have periods o...
  10. I occasionally dream that I'm naked at work! In the dream I suddenly realize I'm naked, and mortified...I usually try to make it to the linen cart for something to cover up with.
  11. how gross & messy is nursing REALLY?

Once I went to the grocery after work, and while in line I realized had green poop on the back of my upper arm! I had apparently missed it when I washed after cleaning a patient. If you work in the hospita setting..medsurg for instance you will hav...
  12. Anatomy atlas

I also reccomend the coloring books--there is one for anatomy and physiology too. It helped me tremendously.
  13. lactation consultants- how many hospitals have them?

My hospital has them, and I don't know their hours but one did visit w/me when I delivered on the weekend. I was able to make appointments to see them twice when my son was a few weeks old. They were wonderful--really helped me to overcome some latc...
  14. Study: 40+ hospital drug errors a day

My hospital is supposed to be getting the new barcode med admin. system this month. We are dreading it, already forseeing the problems involved. It's already a problem getting meds. Our pharmacy is understaffed too, so half our time is spent hunting...
  15. Promethazine IV Question

Always dilute w/9cc's saline where I work. I have often noted confusion in the elderly with this drug. You have to be very careful. Ambien also causes people to flip out at times! Once when I was a patient in the ER, the nurse pushed phenergan undil...
