Whidden Memorial Hospital or Somerville Hospital???

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi. I'm currently STILL looking for an RN job. I passed my boards three weeks ago and haven't had much lucking finding a job- mostly in the Boston area and still nothing....does anyone have information regarding Whidden Memorial Hospital or Somerville Hospital?? I just applied online....all i know is that they are part of Cambridge Health Alliance. Any information would be much appreciated. :uhoh3:

As of May/June..neither of these were hiring. I sopke to both hospitals and they both urged me to go to a bigger Boston hosp. I ended up at Salem Hosp....Dont know if that info has changed

Thanks for the info! :) Hmmm...i find that strange that a hospital would urge you to work in the bigger Boston hospitals. I applied to every hospital I could think of in Boston and nothing (except Children's- not interested in pediatrics right now, and Dana Farber, which I don't think hires new grads). I found a couple of positions online that were in Med/Surg (since Everett is right next to my town and Somerville i think i could get to by T) so I applied to both. Thanks again.

Anyone else have more info??? TIA. :)

Hi,

I don't know if this helps but I am currently in my Med-Surg rotation at Somerville Hospital. I have that the nurses on the evening shift are very helpful and really good to work with on both the Med-Surg floor and the ER. The hospital is a Harvard Medical teaching hospital.

Overall the experience has been good. I am definitely concerned about the amount of people I hear having trouble getting jobs though. Good luck with everything!

Thank you! This was actually helpful :) Do you know anything in terms of pay and nurse patient ratio??? And what floor in med sug are you doing your rotation (like 5th 6th??) Can't remember the floor at the top of my head, but it was 6AB i think.....I applied last week....hoping they get back to me....

As a matter of fact I am on floor 6. It is a small hospital, the floor has about 18 beds on one end of the unit and then another overflow unit down the hall with I think 9 beds. I actually never counted but that is what I think it is. The nurses with whom I have worked have been wonderful. I am actually not sure of the pay scale.

Hi lena

Pam here again, I havent heard good things about the whidden, at least from other paramedics and things. They just didnt feel that patients were cared for well there. Just their opinion i guess. Im going to the job fair in boston tomorrow 10-4, you can email me directly at [email protected] for more info.

Thanks Pam! I emailed you. Yeah I've heard not so good things about Whidden too. Definitely going to the job fair tomorrow. Even fixed up my resume. Thanks again!

With graduation 4 months away I am not encourage by the amount of people struggling to find jobs. Maybe there is no nursing shortage, or hospitals dont want to hire new grads. At South Shore Hospital in Weymouth there are tons of advertised open nursing position. Now I dont know if they want experienced nurses only. I hear the Boston Hospitals hire from within. If you already work at the hospital as a CNA or Patient Care Tech, then your chances for employment at that hospital are pretty good. Other than that I hear that getting into a Boston hospital as a new grad is extremely hard. I hope that those searching for employment find it, as I will be in your position shortly! Good luck to all!

You're right...i had worked at a hospital in Cambridge, but quit after i graduated to have time to study for the boards...so i missed my shot workign there....so i'm still looking...hopefully we do find something.

I am a new grad and I was lucky to get into one of the major Boston hospitals. Fortunately, I had a connection who got me in for an interview. Human Resources is a tough gate-keeper and I would highly recommend that folks network within the hospitals. Do some research in the hospital that you are interested in and find the floor that you are interested in. Most floors are open to the public and you could pay a visit and try to introduce yourself to the nurse manager. Dress professionally and have a copy of your resume handy. I know some of my peers got a job this way and I have heard first hand from at least one nurse manager that they would love to hire a new grad, but don't get resumes from HR. Good luck!
