Simmons Direct-Entry Fall 2014

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi all,

I haven't been able to find any threads specifically for Simmons for this application cycle.

Anyone else apply to the DE FNP program (9/4/14 start)?

My application status just went to Decision Mailed today. They said we wouldn't hear anything until after March so it's quite possible it's a rejection! Nevertheless I thought I'd start this in case anyone else has any updates.

Does anyone know if once you're in the "grad portion" of the program if you can do the dual degree track with the Harvard MPH?

I think they just say the end of March to be safe. I looked back in previous years and it looks like they've heard in mid-March. When was you application complete? Mine was complete Dec 27th and mine hasn't switched to mailed yet.

Hi HCE2014,

I heard from them that my app was complete Mar 6 and I got an acceptance letter on Mar 13.

I've read on prev threads that they send them out in waves, so yours may just be in the next wave. Do you live in Boston and does the school have a good reputation there? I am out of state.

I'm out of state too. I've already committed to UMass Med but I went to visit UMass, Simmons, BC, and Regis when I was there and Simmons and UMass were my favorite. I think it has a great reputation and is in a really great part of the city too. Congrats!

Congrats on UMass!!! I applied to UM Amherst but haven't heard anything. When you visited were you able to meet with people at the school or was it just a self-guided thing? The deposit is very large, which I can understand and view as part of the tuition, but they want you to put it down within 2 weeks. I'd like to visit before making such a big commitment.

I met several staff members while I was there. One of the professors gave me a nice tour. How much is the deposit if you dont mind me asking?

I received an acceptance letter from Simmons in the mail yesterday. There was no interview or phone call, so it came as a surprise. Hope others are receiving good news! They gave me a scholarship, but it looks like Simmons will still be an expensive option. I will most likely end up giving up my seat and going to MGH or UMass.

Yeah, it's certainly not cheap, epoc. On the other hand I don't know of any DE progs that are. HCE2014, the deposit is $750 (woah!, right?). I have family in Boston so I think Im going to schedule a visit to see the campus. Without an interview, I feel like I would otherwise be blindly making a decision. If any of you or anyone that you know have opinions about the program, I'd really like brutal honesty! It's a big investment and I don't want to make a wrong decision. I got into Loyola Chicago's ABSN which is technically ranked more highly, but since I want to do NP I'm more inclined to go with Simmons.

It's true; all the DE programs are expensive. UMass is less expensive for MA residents than the private school options - about 60k over three years. Congratulations on both acceptances. I haven't been to Simmons beyond an open information session. It has a good reputation. I've heard that they can be a bit disorganized, but that's hearsay. I do not know that you can go wrong picking between strong programs, so that should be some comfort!

anonymous219- I was in the same situation with the ABSN or DE option and decided not to go with the ABSN option because in the end I know I want to be an NP and I really didn't want to do the entire application process again. There are some pretty great forums that you can search for that have a lot of information about the Simmons program. Sounds like a lot of people really like it.

Also, looks like my decision says mailed on the online portal. Is it overnighted or just regular mail? Congrats to all who have gotten in!

Got my acceptance letter this AM. Decisions decisions.

HCE2014, congratulations!! Maybe we will be classmates! Thanks for your input on the absn vs de-np, I think I agree with you and am likely going to go with simmons unless there's something i really don't like about it when I visit next week. Good luck deciding!
