Northeastern Direct-Entry NP

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi,

Years ago I met with the director of this program and really loved it. Over the past 2+ years I've been doing the prereqs and volunteering at a hospital. It began to go to the backburner because I felt an accel BSN would be a better choice. Well now that I am ready to apply :yeah: I can't get this program out of my head as being the top choice. SO I'm aiming on the GRE's for Sept to apply for their deadline. Just wanted to see if any students could provide some input on their experience there, and post graduation. I had a NP a few years ago at Harvard Vanguard in Copley who was a graduate and said such great things. I also can see that only Northeastern students get these intern positions at MGH (I'm sure there are internships open to all as well, but I see just Northeastern ones- I'm an employee at Partners). This makes me think they have an advantage... anywho, any feedback would be sooo greatly appreciated!!:redbeathe

Thanks!

Mellzie, it is really surprising that you didn't get an interview at northeastern because you've gotten into other really great schools. are you 100% positive that your application was complete? i know they sent the rejection letters (because i got one), so you could probably email or call to find out.

also if you don't mind me asking, could you share your stats and experience?

Anyone apply for Pediatrics?? I just found out I was waitlisted...they said last year the waitlist had movement through the end of August though and that they accepted 5 for the specialty and waitlisted 5...I don't even know what to make of that! It's by far my top choice program and I have yet to be accepted anywhere else though. But I was considering beginning my MPH in the fall if all else failed. Yikes!!

I heard the same thing for Peds... I was waitlisted (though they FORGOT to mail me my letter.....) I ended up calling and the director called me back apologizing for the oversight. She also told me they exhausted the waitlist last year... so you never know. A lot of schools want deposits in these next two months, so that might start some waitlist movement! I'd like to have the option of Northeastern, but my top choices are all down south :)

Hmmm...maybe they forgot to send mine too? I will call them tomorrow. I applied for Peds as well.

Haha same with me..never received a letter, just finally called the director. Did she tell you if there's any system to how they pull people off the list if space opens up? Are we in some order, etc? Fingers crossed for waitlist movement!

would love to know if they disclose the wait list order... that makes life so much easier (kind of)!

mellzie did you end up finding out if they forgot your letter?

I was accepted into the hybrid program and I was wondering if anyone out there can clarify somethings before I try to speak to someone in admissions.

- Is more than your first year online classes?

- it says in the acceptance information you can choose between Nursing Admin and NP but the way people have been talking it seems more limited than that.

- If you defer do you have to still pay the deposit?

Or any thoughts, criticism, warnings people have about the new hybrid program would be greatly appreciated.

heramay22- I spoke with admissions and have some answers for you. I'm not sure about the Masters portion, but all of your undergraduate classes are online for the 16 months. I would think that many of the Masters classes, if not all, are also online because they limit the options to Nursing Admin or Neonatal NP. If you are interested in another specialty, you have to work as an RN for at least 6 months and then reapply to the graduate school in the specialty you would like, but you must remember you're competing against matriculated traditional NEU DE students as well as other RNs looking to go to graduate school with much more experience under their belts.

As far as the deposit, you need to send in the $600 regardless of whether you want to do the May start or September start. I'm not sure you can defer longer than that.

I was told that we would be under lots of supervision from the regular program in Boston because they want to be sure this program works well and NEU doesn't lose the reputation they have built for a superior program. What it basically comes down to is whether you think you'll succeed in an online class environment as opposed to a traditional classroom environment. That is the decision I am currently trying to make for myself. Good luck to you!

I was accepted into the hybrid program, I received my letter the day I called, and the program never called me back. That was on Friday afternoon, and the deposit was due today (Monday). Yeah, not gonna happen. I really don't know how I feel about this hybrid program. I'll keep my spot at MGH.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say I declined NE this morning. It was a really hard decision, because it's such a great school and so selective, but I had to consider finances and family. I didn't think I would actually get in to have to make this decision in the first place, lol.

For whoever is replacing me, have a great time for both of us!!

Good luck to all!

I am also declining the hybrid program and going to a different traditional program instead. Best of luck to all of you!
