New Nurse Needs Help!!!!

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Sorry this is so long! Hello, I am in need of some GOOD advice from an experienced nurse! I just passed My NCLEX July 12, and I have gotten a job offer in a small Hospital on the Urology Floor (def. not my floor of choice). Any who I live in a small town, with barely any openings around me for new RN's! I know so badly that all I want to do is work in the NICU in which I did a 2 month preceptorship in when I was in Nursing School and I loved it! And this hospital doesn't even have a NICU, the only hospital that does around Me, isn't hiring! I was also thinking that starting in Pedes, PICU, or even L&D would be better, but again there are no openings! I'm torn on what to do and I need a Job! Should I just take this job because there are no other options, should I wait, or should I just plan to accept this job and still hunt for NICU, Pedes, PICU, or L&D positions? Does it look bad to leave a job after 6mos if I am hired elsewhere? I don't want to look unprofessional seeing how I am just starting out, and I was raised better than that! But I do know where My heart is and that is in the NICU! What types of things does a RN do on a Urology floor, I'm thinking it's similar to that of a med-surg floor. If anyone could help Me that would be great! I really need some Nurse's opinions I told them I would let them know about my decision early mon morning! What should I do???? Thank You soo much!

I would definitely take the job! NICU, L&D, and pedi jobs can be hard to come by, especially new grad positions. There are so many new nurses who post on this board saying that they have been searching for months (a whole year even) with no luck finding a job. You can at least be gaining some experience and have an income until something else comes around. As far as leaving after 6 months, it doesn't look great but sometimes a job just isn't a good fit for the nurse so it does happen.

I agree, the positions you are looking for are in high demand.Take the position, once you have even one year's experience you will be looked at differently.

Did you try Children's in Boston?

Thank YOU VERY MUCH for your Replies! I agree with You both as well, just wanted some Experienced Nurse's Opinions. I would LOVE Boston Childrens, but that is 2.5 hrs away from Me. But good suggestion! Thanks again!
