  1. At My Hospital you have to be acls certified to work in IMC (Tele) if Your not You will be by the time your off orientation. They have tried to float people down there and they tell them "it's ok somebody will be watching your monitors." Ummm No I don't think so! How can someone watch their monitors and yours?! That's 10 monitors! And how can You trust a nurse you don't even work w/ regularly to do that? You can't! And god forbid something happens and You get pulled into court what are you going to say? "Umm someone else was watching my monitors, because I don't know how to read them." I mean come on, You need to protect your patients, your self and your license!
  2. I didn't know there was such a big pay difference. As a New Grad I know Baystate Hires at $26.50 and BMC was $27 and was supposed to be increasing to $30 to start by the first of the year. I believe @ BMC 3-11's were $2.25 more an hr, Nights were 20% More and Weekends were 30% more don't quote me on the differential though. But I have heard from Numerous People that BMC's Base pay is more, and I do know that New Grads are hired @ $26.50 @ Baystate (not positive about their differentials though). Thanks for the Good Info!
  3. Thank YOU VERY MUCH for your Replies! I agree with You both as well, just wanted some Experienced Nurse's Opinions. I would LOVE Boston Childrens, but that is 2.5 hrs away from Me. But good suggestion! Thanks again!
  4. I'll try and help you out as much as I can- Baystate- Non Union Berkshire- Union Baystate Pay- $26.50 to start Berkshire- $27 to start and I believe it's going up Baystate- Pysch is available a good amount of the time. Try the website, or google Baystate Health in Springfield Mass, and search Carreers. Carlson Recovery Center is DETOX. Both have Contiunuing Edu Benefits usually with a 2yr dedication after your complete. Not sure about benefits or their orientations. Hope this Helps!
  5. Sorry this is so long! Hello, I am in need of some GOOD advice from an experienced nurse! I just passed My NCLEX July 12, and I have gotten a job offer in a small Hospital on the Urology Floor (def. not my floor of choice). Any who I live in a small town, with barely any openings around me for new RN's! I know so badly that all I want to do is work in the NICU in which I did a 2 month preceptorship in when I was in Nursing School and I loved it! And this hospital doesn't even have a NICU, the only hospital that does around Me, isn't hiring! I was also thinking that starting in Pedes, PICU, or even L&D would be better, but again there are no openings! I'm torn on what to do and I need a Job! Should I just take this job because there are no other options, should I wait, or should I just plan to accept this job and still hunt for NICU, Pedes, PICU, or L&D positions? Does it look bad to leave a job after 6mos if I am hired elsewhere? I don't want to look unprofessional seeing how I am just starting out, and I was raised better than that! But I do know where My heart is and that is in the NICU! What types of things does a RN do on a Urology floor, I'm thinking it's similar to that of a med-surg floor. If anyone could help Me that would be great! I really need some Nurse's opinions I told them I would let them know about my decision early mon morning! What should I do???? Thank You soo much!
  6. Thank You very Much!
  7. Yes I totally agree with You Steve and that's where I have been trying to look for Jobs, but there is nothing open where I live. I live in Western Mass so the Only NICU near Me is Baystate in Springfield, MA and then CT Children's hospital In Hartford, which is almost a hr and 1/2 from me. So as U can see I don't have much to choose from! Where is this so called Nursing Shortage haha! Thanks for your Input though, I totally agree with You!
  8. Hello I am a recent grad, who has just sucessfully passed my boards. I know for sure that I want to work in the NICU, It has been my dream since I was a child and I also did my preceptorship in the NICU while in Nursing School, and I absolutely know that is where My heart is! I was super siked to work in the NICU as soon as I passed my NCLEX, but there is absolutely no openings near me, in the mean time what should I do? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I was going to just do med surg 4 the mean time, then when an opening arises, I will apply. Are there Any special certifications that I should go and get? If anyone could help Me out that would be great! Thanks alot!
  9. $20.50? Wow that's a Big difference from where I live in Western Mass! They start @ $26.50 for the Day shift, $27 for Evening and $28.50 for 11-7. Wow I'm surprised! I wonder why such a Big difference (only 45 mins from eachother too). Hmmm. Well thanks for Your Help. By the way I think St. Peters is $21. Well that made My mind up where I'm going to work haha!
