Job Market for RNs in Massachusetts?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello,

I was wondering what the current job market is like for RNs in Massachusetts, outside of Boston in the suburbs or smaller cities. Would love to hear what people's experience has been with finding a job over the last few years in any setting, and whether they think the job market will be better or worse 3 to 4 years down the road. Thank you!

All my jobs have been in Boston and the immediate Boston area but I've never had trouble. What kind of environments are you looking at?

Curious about anything for a non BS RN. Just wanting to know what the market is really like. Sometimes I read there is a shortage and sometimes that there are not many jobs. I would like to have an accurate picture.

In Boston, getting a job without a BSN is difficult. At least at the big teaching hospitals.

Community hospitals hire ADNs as far as I know. I worked at the hospital in the town I grew up in when I was in nursing school and most of the nurses were diploma or ADNs. They even still had a couple of LPNs working on the floor. That was 12 years ago, though, so idk what it's like now. Private duty is always hiring and the home infusion company I recently left definitely didn't care if their nurses had a BSN or not.

It definitely depends on what you're looking for specialty wise and how many years of experience under your belt. For new grads it's pretty much impossible without connections, otherwise I think it's manageable.

Voting in favor of the nurse staffing ballot initiative wouldn't hurt your situation.
