Is Boston good for jobs for new grads?

Okay, here is the short version...husband applied to a bunch of doctorate programs all over the country.....When he starts getting acceptance or rejection letters back, one of the many factors we will take in making the decsion where to go will be the availability of jobs in the prospective cities for New Grads as I graduate in 2010 with an ADN ( I also have a BA in another field if it matters, which I know it does for some employers) so.....Boston....tough for new grads to find jobs or okay? Thanks for your help!

Short answer is "no". Boston is not the place for new grads at this time. There are many posts on the MA board that discuss the current new grad market in this area.

This may change by 2010. All you can do is keep an eye on the market to see what happens.

If you are a New Grad with an ADN... forget about it... to ADN's, Boston says "need not apply" and "not welcome".... nice, huh? So much for all that work!!

The ADN part only applies to Boston hospitals not the hospitals in the suburbs. And Boston it a very competitive market.

Alexk49 are you referring to those ADNs with experience?

I have a BSN and have applied to many, many hospitals in eastern MA; from Lowell to the Cape, even on the Cape. I graduated in May 08, with honors, did my preceptorship in CCU/CVICU and cannot find a position. (I did move here from out of state, so that doesn't help.) Most positions I have seen require a BSN. If they don't require it then it says "preferred". I am sure an ADN with experience won't have near as much trouble as one without.

To the OP: maybe you can get some experience before you come to the Boston area? ....if the market hasn't changed by then.

To be a Magnet hospital , the hospital must have BSNs. I agree with you, since I am a diploma grad. I bit the bullet and got my MSN. It is not going to go away.

Having even one year nursing experience will move you from the huge pile of new grads to experienced nurses. As I mentioned before the suburbs with the exclusion of Jordan Hospital will hire ADNS.

Yes, the BIG difference will be to get rid of the "new grad" status. SSHosp will not hire new grads, either. Although I noticed the Jordan has reduced its qualifications to 3mos. experience and showing 'evidence' of furthering your education... I want to go for my BSN or MSN, but it would be great to be somewhere that will help me do so!
