Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

Hey bcandygurl, sorry for the late reply! I sort of abandoned this for a while there with TEAs studying and all. Anyway, I'd say if it works for you financially, go for the online. I know what you mean about face-to-face learning, it just seems better having some human interaction while learning. Though, I think you should just do what's best for you!

Was anyone at the open house today at the Shady Grove campus? I was there. :^)

Also, does anyone have any tips on how to take the TEAs? I took mine and didn't do as well as I'd hoped. (Got really bad test anxiety... It's a really funny story if anyone wants to hear it.) I'll be retaking it on August 11th. Wish me luck... again!

Anyone a current student on here? Got any advice for us prospective students?

All the previous application cycle boards have a TON of info from current students

Hey hopefuls,

I have to admit that after getting my acceptance, I kind of abandoned the MD forum.. but I would be happy to answer any questions/help in any way that I can. I'm starting the CNL program in September, and my cohort will be the first to have the reconfigured program... So if ya'll need anything, send me a PM or tag me, if you can figure out how to do that (I've seen it but haven't tried to do it yet). Best of luck to all!

Hey all!

I am also applying for UMBSON Spring 2015! I'm taking my TEAS exam next week and I am really nervous about it.

Littlemango, I was registered to attend the open house at the Shady Grove campus but couldn't make it. :( Did they talk about anything important?

Good luck to everyone!

gummycoco they did something a bit different this time compared to last year's summer open house (not sure if they did this Fall '13 and Spring '14 open houses though) They did an information session and it was packed full in there! Anyway, they went over the application process and briefly about the program overall. The Dean for the BSN dept. was there (not the DEAN Dean of the school though) and was answering some questions.

They clarified a bit about the new curriculum, and I had asked before the information session about it as well. Basically, the material is all the same, just rearranged and a little more organized than the previous curriculum. Also, another thing they stressed at the information session (if you haven't sent in your online application) is that it is a wise idea to send in the online application before sending all of the documents by mail. It'll be easier for them to find your file and organize everything once your online app is already in their system.

Also, hurry and apply (online) before August 1st! The application fee will be going up to $75 (a whole $25 dollars more)!!! If you are worried about the essays, you can just say that you'll send them with your documents in the mail in the text boxes. If not, hurry and send it!

The UMSON website is also having a makeover!

They also said a 70 was still good for the TEAS (however, I'd aim higher). They look to see if your score is over the national mean. I hope you do well, gummycoco! I'll be taking mine again on the 11th too!

Great info!!! Thanks for sharing. I may need to attend an information session myself so I can receive more information about the curriculum. I just submitted my online application yesterday. As far as the TEAS exam, I had to also take the HESI for my nursing school entrance exam so I used that material to help me study for the TEAS. I did pretty well on it just using that study material. I have to say I was already really good at MATH and Science though when I took it so English and Language Usage was really my only weak point. Wish you all the best!!!

@bcandygurl I'm so glad I could help :^) I think there are information sessions in August. See this link to the UMSON website: Calendar of Events | University of Maryland School of Nursing

I'm applying as well and I don't know which is more nerve racking. Towson's program or UMSON's. I feel like I'm on the complete edge of being accepted to both, but that there are way more qualified applicants. I just need to be in someone's nursing school!!

littlemango, thanks so much for sharing!!

I'm just so nervous about the TEAS that I'm taking on Wednesday. I'm hoping for a score higher than 80..but we'll see. Good luck on yours too! It's my first time taking it and I signed up for the computer version. Do I get the score right away or does it take a couple of days?

I already submitted my online application and I'm just waiting for my recommendation letters to be submitted. However, one of my references isn't getting back to me...so I don't know what to do. I've emailed my other professors but it seems like everyone's away. It's a bummer that they have to be academic references. :( I hope I hear back from my professors soon.

Good luck everyone!

@jennyxyz I'm totally on the same boat. It's going to be a rough few months from now until we know!

@gummycoco whatever you do, don't be nervous!!! I went down that road when I took the TEAs back in May and it didn't go well for me. Definitely affected my scores. I'm hoping for over an 80 as well! Even if it is at exactly 80, that's good for me! Also, you'll know your score IMMEDIATELY after you submit the test. You get an electronic sheet telling you what you got, along with the national mean so you can compare. It's really nifty! Then, when you get home go to the ATI website and purchase the transcript and send it to the proper schools. It's $27.00 (link to store). I recently called ATI and they told me the schools get the scores immediately since it is all electronic. (Though, when you do send the scores, don't fret when on the online application summary it doesn't say that the scores were received immediately, on that date. They'll still have to file it! Probably within a day or two it'll pop up.)

As for your professor, did you go to a community college for your prereqs? I'd say your best bet is to go see if you can visit them. I know at FCC some professors have offices where you can drop by in the summer if they are in. If they aren't, ask around and see when they will be.

:^) I'm so glad I could be of some help to you guys!

Littlemango,

Thanks so much for your encouragement :) I guess I have to track my professors down! Good luck with your application and I hope we get to study together!

I do too gummycoco! :)
