New LPN's

I can't believe how hard it is finding a job as a new LPN :confused: I've been licensed for 3 months now and haven't had a single interview. I've spoken to the other women that I had graduated with and very FEW people have found employment, and If they did it was only 2-3 days a week with ZERO benefits. LPN's cannot work as CNA's, tech's, or any other job that is below your licensure in Maryland. I just want to warn other people who are considering going to school to become an LPN. I honestly believed when I started school that I wouldn't have any problem finding a job after graduation. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but if you are a new graduate, please don't get your hopes up like I did. After the past couple months of stress and frustration I finally decided to see an Army recruiter and I'm so happy I did! Going in as an LPN I may be able to skip bootcamp and attend a 2 week Army ettiquette course, go to some training and start as an E-4. I'm determined to enlist as soon as possible!:nurse:

WOW, Congrats to you! I think they should at least be able to pay for your RN classes. They probabley will do more. I wish you luck & much success. I am sure when you come out you will have lots of experience under your belt and have no problem getting a job. :)

I think being an army nurse is a WONDERFUL idea! I have been inspired by some books I have read written by WWII nurses, such as Bedpan Commando and If I Perish.

Lilmsnurse, I share your frustration. I've been licensed since October and couldn't even get an interview until just recently (might get the job *crosses fingers*). And I probably only got that interview because the position opened up in a unit with the same exact population I have years of experience working with from before I went to nursing school.

The army thing sounds like a fantastic idea--if I was a little younger and not married to someone who'd kill me for it ;) I'd probably be considering the military right now too. My favorite nurse I've ever worked with was an ex-marine LPN.

I wanted 2 know if anybody recommended any lpn programs in the dmv or any insight on becoming a lpn at all

Would any of you LPN's out there consider doing temporary work? Back in October I went to a temporary agency in Falls Church,VA called Temporary Help,Inc. & they use CNA/GNA's,LPN's & I think RN's as well in the DMV (dc/md/va) area. I'll find the paper & post the phone # if anyone is interested :)

The thing is they wanted you to be licensed in both states & the district too. If you weren't they encouraged you to fill out paperwork to obtain DC & Virginia licensure.

Thanks for the encouragement :) jennycglad6, as far as becoming an LPN- entry level jobs are few and far between right now :( I've even heard of new RN's having trouble finding jobs. There are 2 practical nursing programs that I know of, one is in DC and the other is up in pa.

I'm a new grad lpn and found work right away, sorry you couldn't find a job op but it doesn't mean there aren't any... I'm truly blessed.
