THEY'RE BAAAAACCKKK!!!

Oh, the horror. I can remember when I first encountered them 17 years ago. I was just finishing up the 6th grade and I SWORE that I'd be in Canada when they returned. Instead I find myself back here from Boston and a few years later they've returned. UGH. They are soooo gross!!

The worst part is when they cover the ground so much that you can't help but crunch on them on your way up the sidewalk/to the car/on the patio. And of course the dogs love to eat them and then throw them up. :stone

Gross. Anyone else have them yet?

Actually I remember they printed recipes in the paper last time around.

I don't think coming here to Canada would make a difference since we have the disgusting little buggers here as well. :)

Oh sorry. You learn something new every day! I thought they were limited to a few states on the US East Coast. You get the 17 year ones too? The ones that come out by the millions?

They are ugly things with huge useless red eyes because they're blind as bats.

There was an article on Yahoo about pediatricians warning their kids about them because kids are getting injured trying to avoid them.

They constantly run into people because they can't see and they're clumsy. They are VERY noisy.

I'm not squeamish about most bugs except crickets. (can't help my cricket phobia, please don't laugh) But when you get swarms of things things flying into your car window, it's not fun.

And Yes, people do eat them. I think it's some kind of misplaced machismo or something.

Here's a link to a pic for those of you who haven't seen them:

I swear I'm staying inside as much as possible until they're gone.

They are ugly things...

Was out cutting the grass yesterday. Saw a bunch of these damn ugly light brown things all over the door of our outside shed.

UGLY is right!

:specs: i like them. it takes a while to get used to the noise, but i think the cicadas are sweet.

Mel-if you have them then we are next-I am in southeastern Pa... I love the noise they make....I was fascinated by them when I was a kid-I remember picking the empty shells off of the trees and shrubs....what fun!
