Applied for MD license (endorsement) in April....no license yet?

Is this normal to take this long? I had to go to Baltimore in person, after waiting more than 6 weeks for a mailed application. All my stuff was submitted that day, I did the online NURSYS verification that evening. My OH license is in good standing.

***??? I will not be able to work as a sub school nurse or start my MS program this fall unless I get a license by the end of July. Honestly, I'm just about at the point of dusting off my old Industrial Hygeine degree and just forgetting about nursing altogether.

Specializes in ICU, ER.

As a resident of Maryland and former Md licensed RN, (now licensed and employed in Penna.) I can say that the Md. Board of Nursing can be a slow, frustrating organization to deal with. Not too long ago, I tried to re-instate my Md. license. I spent several weeks dealing with unreturned voicemails, voicemail boxes that were "full-unable to accept message", unreturned emails, etc. I finally gave up. Instead of per-diem in Md, I pick up OT at my full-time job in Penna. Good luck.

Specializes in ICU, currently in Anesthesia School.

As a former MD nurse, welcome to the frustrating world that is the MD BON. If you have visited the board to apply for compact recognition, be prepared to return to "bug" em. Also, you may not recieve any paper from them as they no longer issue actual hard copy licenses. you may have a valid rn, just go back to the board site and look yourself up, If you have a permanent rn listed next to your name, print it out and voila- instant license! otherwise- good luck!

I agree with the other posts. I have been licensed in several states, but had to make numerous calls to MD BON to get my license.

Another interesting thing, they renewed the license online, but after waiting two weeks and not getting a hard copy, I called the office and was informed "BON no longer issue paper copy of licenses." Apparently this is a recent change, and they said the employers needed to look online to verify that you are licensed. I signed up to work with an agency, and they automatically told me they would look online. I would suggest you first check online to see if you are licensed, then take it from there.

I suggest writing a complaint somewhere higher, maybe American Nurses Association? MBON is a ridiculous organization. I've been waiting for endorsement of my license for over 4 months now. I can't go to work because MBON failed to do its job on time. I should request to get my money back, shouldn't I...

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Sadly my experience has been similar. What a shame and how embarrassing. :(

i applied for endorsement on the 2nd of Feb. 2009 and got my permanent license on the 11th of May.

Good luck.

I applied for endorsement end of feb 2009 and it came through last just week; I picked up application in person and hand delivered everything back in person. Good Luck!!!
