Anyone applied to Salisbury University's ABSN for Fall 2009?

U.S.A. Maryland

Just seeing if I am the only one! I've gotten all my admissions stuff in, and hope to get an interview and be accepted!

I am in the Second Degree BSN program, but was deferred from last year. I was supposed to start in Sep ’08, but since the US Army is paying for me to go to school and for my school I did not mind waiting. I did not find out until mid-February last year on whether I was accepted into the program or not, but my interview had been done before Christmas. Best of Luck

hello! I applied for Fall 2009. I recently had the phone interview with Dr. Johnson.

They are reviewing the applications the first Friday in March. We should hear back by mid-March.

I looked on craigslist to get a taste of the housing situation. Looks pretty cheap. If I get accepted I will want to live in a super quiet house...hopefully that won't be hard to find.

Good Luck to you!

You'll hear in late Feb-March. The class that graduates in December 09 only had 17 students (they take 24). My class had 24 though. So you still might get in if your on the waiting list and you'll get in if you have a 3.0.

Interesting thing about SU. Its hard as hell to get an A in classes. They got put on probation in the 90s due to crappy NCLEX pass rates. Kids were skipping all kinds of classes etc. So they made the cricullium alot harder. In clinicals I think they have a policy that only 2-3/8 kids in clinicals can get A's unless there are extraoridary circumstances (though I could be wrong). 95% percent passed 1st time last year so I guess its working though. First 2 semesters aren't bad, the last is hell on earth.

However though its hard to get A's they'll automatically let you in to the MSN or RN Practionshiner programs if you get a 2.75+ at SU. I got all B's, 1A and 1C in 3 semesters.

Housing is about $700-800mo for managed apts. Other apts can be much cheaper. Watch where you live though some neighborhoods around the univ have a ton of burgularies. I've always said Salisbury is a town that has the crime that a big city has with none of the culture.

i just got a big envelope from salisbury, i got accepted to the university, but I must still wait to hear from the nursing department. good luck, ya'll!

I also applied to Salisbury University ABSN Fall 09. They'll send out acceptance letters in March. I hear it's a great school but the city crime rate is above state average, which is awkward since it is also the #9 "Best Places to Live" according to National Geographic. Coming from Los Angeles, I hope to have a good change of pace in Salisbury. Does anyone have any advice on living in a small city like Salisbury?

If Salisbury is #9 on the best places to live then I'd hate to see what the rest of the country is like. Are you sure it was Salisbury, MD and not Salis, NC or another Salisbury? The university is very nice, the RN program is solid but the rest of the town is a dump. You are only 25miles from the beach and there are some decent public/national parks within a 30-60min drive though so its not all bad. Crime is high and the town has a nasty heroin problem. You have to watch where you get an apt. because about 4 of my friends got burgularized over the Thanksgiving and winter breaks.

I live in Salisbury and I've never had any problem with violent or property crime. I think, like anywhere else, there are good areas and bad areas and it is important to be aware of your surroundings so you don't create an opportunity to be victimized.

Crime is actually down a few percentage points although the reporting of it is up.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

I received an email indicating my acceptance for Fall 09! Now I need to get to work and figure out housing/financing. Let me know if any of you get in. We can start a yahoo/facebook group. -J

i am not big on facebooks, but i agree with the trying to find housing and such. trying to figure out what part of salisbury to live and be affordable at the same time is looking to be a challenge, especially with a family. congratulations on getting in. looking forward to seeing you this fall.

Hi, I was trying to send a PM but I could not for a strange reason. Anyways, I am presently in college in NY. I plan on attending an ABSN program after I graduate. I have already taken a bunch of prereqs (I have more than one school in mind)

API-B

APII-C(plan on taking over)

Micro-B+

Stats-C+(plan on taking over)

Pscyh (gen)-C

Psych(hum dev)-C (plan on taking over)

General Chem- B-

Orgo/Biochem- C(plan on taking over)

Gen BioII-B

I know I have a lot of C's so I plan on taking them over so I will be more competitive. Even though I have these C's my GPA is still in the 3.3-3.5 range.

I really have my eye set on Salisbury U because the price is actually cheaper than most of the ABSN programs in NY tristate area (some cost upwards of $50,000) and my family will possibly be moving there within next year.

Would it be possible for you to tell me your stats which led you to enter the program. Also what is your honest opinion on the program now that you are within the program. How is the the job market in Baltimore or MD in general? (In some cities like Philly there is market saturation with RN's).

I just want toknow your honest opinion. I won't be applying until I graduate (at least 3 semesters but I like to plan ahead esp if my family really does move).

Thank you.

Congrats on your acceptance. I am a college student interested in the program at Salisbury. If it is possible could you PM (if possible) your stats-such as your GPA and your grades for the prereqs- it would really help me gauge myself.
