Hi all,

I have an interview soon at a long-term care facility in Massachusetts for a weekend RN Supervisor position. The hours will be 7a-7p Saturday and Sunday, every weekend. I believe it's a part-time position without benefits. It is a facility owned by a very large for-profit corporation.

They seem very eager to have me come in and have asked me to bring a recent physical, TB, and two forms of ID. This leads me to believe they may offer me a position on the spot.

Though I'm from Massachusetts originally, I currently live in PA and I'll be relocating. I've never worked as a nurse outside of PA, so I have no idea what pay rate to expect.

I'm concerned that, if I'm offered the job on the spot, with my excitement to relocate and under the pressure of the interview, I'll accept the position with a lower-than-fair payrate. I'm afraid that they will take advantage of my naiveté.

Do any of you know if special incentives are typically still offered with these weekend positions? Could any of you advise me on negotiating a pay rate or other benefits? Have you ever been in a similar situation and learned from it? I would really appreciate any advice!

I've been an rn for 2 years and I have experience as RN supervisor, and ADON/Unit Manager.

If you don't mind doing Charge and Supervisor I would say move ahead but with caution. Look at their last survey on Nursing Home Compare to give you an idea what kind of facility you are going into. You can tell a lot by the employee's faces and body language. Are they smiling? Do they look at you? Are they hurried? Do the residents look kempt? Is the facility clean? Odors?

Negotiate perks, they can only say no if they are interested in you. For example, work 24 get paid for 28.

When I worked LTC in MA the weekend supervisor worked 7a-7p every weekend but was on call from Friday 7pm until Monday 7a. It was considered a full-time position with benefits.

You've only been an RN for 2 years and you've already been an ADON? Hmmmmm.

Most places no longer offer incentives for anything. My supervisors have more experience, but we start RNs with 2 years experience at $26 with a dollar or two more for being supervisor.
