QIS surveys

Have any of you had a QIS survey? Massachusetts isn't scheduled to change over until group 5 which could mean another year.
Do any of you have experience with Abaqis? I'm trying to get my company to buy it to get ready. Seems like a wonderful system.

There is a small part of the SOM in Appendix PP which talks about the Traditional and QIS survey- other than that, we have not been told anything about it other than it will be computerized, and the computer will pick the sample. We were also told that there will be more resident reviews with the QIS survey,. Now the sample number is based on the census of the facility, with QIS it won't matter, or at least that's what we have heard. They gave us the tablet computers that are supposed to be used with this system about 2 years ago...haha! We still have not heard when any transition or training will take place. I have a feeling the computers will be wayyyy out of date before we are trained and turn over to the system. But then again, who knows....CMS could say "Okay Now" and that will be the way it is....

Hi Cape Cod Mermaid,

I saw your posts up on All Nurses and I am very interested in working in P-town. I am a Florida LPN with 4 years of experience, some of that being in LTC. I will contact the Mass BON for endorsement info if given the opportunity. Are there still positions available? What is the pay scale? Is it year round? Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,

Rachelle Vaughan

We have the QIS surveys being done in MN. My last two surveys were QIS. There is more questions asked of my nurse managers and less of the floor staff. The initial selection is 40 residents. It doesn't matter what your actual census is in the building. They enter info into the computer for the initial group and then the computer tells them whether to investigate more a particular subjest. Tube feedings, dialysis, and hospice are automatic residents they will look at when triggered. It relies heavily on the documentation. They do far less actual observation now. I find this type of survey much less stressful. It does take longer on average but, most of the time they are in a room working with the computers and not out on the floor. I am happy to say that we received 1 tag at a D level in July.

We had our first QIS in June. It was strange because they were more seclusive than anything I ever experienced. I am the MDS nurse and they hardly bothered with me. I am in MN too.
